Welcome to the National Indian Film Festival of Australia (NIFFA) 2026 – the first and only national annual celebration of Indian cinema in Australia.

Indian stories. Australian screens. Stories that travel, cinema that unites.

More than just a festival, NIFFA is a cultural bridge between India and Australia, harnessing the power of cinema to spark conversation, connection, and change. With premiere screenings across seven metropolitan cities and a growing network of regional centres, NIFFA brings the richness and diversity of Indian storytelling to audiences nationwide.

After an extraordinary 2025 debut, NIFFA returns in 2026 with an expanded and more ambitious program. Across 14+ cities, the festival will showcase the very best of Indian cinema- from bold regional voices and emerging independent filmmakers to acclaimed mainstream storytellers and iconic stars. The program spans features, documentaries, and short films that reflect the complexity, energy, and emotion of contemporary India and the Indian diaspora.

Running from March-July 2026, NIFFA will have screenings across Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, Geelong, Dubbo, Broken Hill, Gold Coast and for the first time in the Nothern Territory and Tasmania with Darwin, Alice Springs and Hobart.

Proudly supported by NFDC, ICCR, Dendy Cinemas Australia, Reading Cinemas, the Film Heritage Foundation, with NDTV and SBS as media partner and key industry collaborations with Forum Film, Pocket Films, Zig Zag Post and many more, NIFFA presents a lineup that moves from the glitz of Bollywood to daring, thought-provoking regional cinema with a special focus on Punjabi cinema this year.

Whether it’s a powerful premiere, an intimate Q&A, an intensive workshop, or a glittering gala night, NIFFA 2026 promises an unforgettable journey into the heart of Indian cinema on Australian screens, for audiences everywhere.

From the moment I heard about NIFFA’s inaugural edition, it felt like an event destined to thrive - driven by a team truly committed to showcasing Indian cinema in all its forms.

My film was selected for the first edition and awarded Best Indie Feature. The festival maintained prompt communication, and everyone involved was genuinely enthusiastic about bringing the event to life - a sign of a strong team working toward a shared vision. I have no doubt that NIFFA will grow rapidly and establish itself as a standout event for Indian filmmakers.
