NEW Moon Fest - Nantucket Empowering Women
Short Film Eligibility Criteria: (See below for Super Short Competition criteria)
In honor of the Wild Woman archetype, films that depict strong, intuitive and persevering women characters qualify for NEW Moon Fest.
Only short films can be submitted.
Qualified submissions feature women in at least three (or 75% of) lead creative roles: Writer, Producer, Director, Cinematographer, Editor, Composer, Lead Actor(s), or other significant key role.
Premiere status is not required.
Non-English films must be subtitled in English. For accessibility, English language shorts must have the option of English captioning.
NEW Moon Fest can only accept, consider and notify entries submitted with valid entry form and non-refundable entry fee. To be considered for NEW Moon Fest, entrants must fill out the entry form on FilmFreeway. Entrants must submit a Secure Online Screener. Entry Fee payment must be made online through FilmFreeway. Fee waivers will be provided on a case by case basis. Due to the limited number of fee waivers, we cannot guarantee that you will receive one, even if you meet the criteria outlined below. Eligibility for a Fee Waiver will depend on the following:
• You lack the financial means to pay our submissions fee, either partially or in full.
• You are unable to pay the submission fee for political/geographical reasons outside of your control.

All films will be notified of their status in April 2025. If your contact information or premiere status changes between entry submission and our notification date, please update your information on FilmFreeway and email any changes to the NEW Moon Fest programmers at: info@newmoonfest.org
Entrants must be legally authorized to enter their film in NEW Moon Fest and the entry must not be subject to any claims or litigation and must not be threatened by any claims or litigation. It is the sole responsibility of the entrant to secure clearance from the copyright holders of any copyrighted materials in the film. The entrant releases and discharges NEW Moon Fest, its employees and agents from any and all claims, demands or causes of actions related to misappropriation or infringement of copyright or violation of any other right arising out of or relating to the film submission.
By agreeing to the terms and conditions on the entry form for NEW Moon Fest, the entrant submitting a film to NEW Moon Fest - Nantucket Empowering Women acknowledges that s/he has read, understood and agrees to the rules and guidelines described above.
FINALISTS:
In the event that a submission is accepted as a finalist by NEW Moon Fest, the finalist hereby agrees to the following rights and requests and grants to NEW Moon Fest without reservations, conditions or qualifications:
NEW Moon Fest reserves the right to screen an exhibition-quality digital file of the film on May 24, 2025 in front of a live audience at the Siasconset Casino Association in Nantucket, MA.
NEW Moon Fest reserves the right to coordinate ALL publicity and press outreach concerning the film’s presentation leading up to and at the festival event, including but not limited to:
The right to use excerpted clips, trailers, still images and/or titles, and information from or relating to the film for promotional purposes in all media including NEW Moon Fest’s website.
The right to issue and authorize publicity concerning the filmmakers and the film and to use all associated names, likenesses and biographical information.
NEW Moon Fest reserves the right to collect any and all proceeds fundraised at the NEW Moon Fest - Nantucket Empowering Women event including but not limited to: festival tickets, auction items, sponsorships, and pledges. All funds raised will be contributed to the Nantucket Community Television’s educational programs and a portion of proceeds will go to support and empower women/individuals served at A Safe Place.
NEW Moon Fest encourages applications from people of all races, religions, national origins, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions, and ages, as well as veterans and individuals with disabilities. We strongly encourage you to apply if you are from a marginalized or underrepresented group, particularly in the film industry. NEW Moon Fest reserves the right to consider for inclusion in the event, and include in the event, films received at any time and through any means, channel, or process, including means, channels, or processes other than those outlined in these Terms. Nothing in these terms or otherwise requires NEW Moon Fest to select for event inclusion any of the films submitted through the process outlined in these terms.

Submission fees for SUPER SHORTS are $30. Please contact info@newmoonfest.org for a personal discount code.
If you cannot afford the submission fee for your NEW Moon Fest Super Short Film, kindly contact the programmers at info@newmoonfest.org with a letter explaining your circumstances to receive your waiver.
