Our festival is located in the heart of Montauk. Situated on the Eastern tip of Long Island we are hosting an annual film festival that aims to select films that highlight, and hopefully inspire, an awareness of our environment, sustainability, athleticism, humanity, and community, through independent films.

Our 4 main categories are:

- Social/Cultural: Films that highlight inclusion, representation, adversity, and global stories

- Surf & Turf: Films that highlight extreme sports & athletics on the sea and land

- Narrative: Films that are Athletic, Comedic, Dramatic, Environmental, Experimental films, and LGBTQ films created and cultivated by filmmakers on Long Island, in NYC, and beyond

Honored to be featured at this festival (mahalo!), but disappointed in the event itself. I write this as constructive criticism, but I hope this festival can deliver on promises in the upcoming years -- cash awards, screenings at a Montauk resort, etc. Instead, films were being shown in a library basement with no moderation or any fanfare at all. On the day I attended, they even stopped showing a film prematurely, because they were "running out of time." I think this festival has such potential to be a great event! It's a great location with a perfect environmental focus, but it definitely undelivered in 2023.

    Response from festival:

Ashley, I’m sorry you felt this way as this year due to the financial climate we did not get key sponsorship funding and since we are a nonprofit this what we rely on to produce the festival. Furthermore, several of our staff members had family issues and we had to choose between moving the event to the library or canceling the event entirely. We are sorry it wasn’t up to your expectations but against all odds we tried.

  • Montauk was wonderful. A film festival based truly on quality, true to its themes, with the most responsive team in a gorgeous location at the very end of Long Island. So proud to have had We Are Bleach included in Montauk Film Festivals program and to have had the opportunity to see so many wonderful films and spend time with their directors. An honor and a joy.
