The Milwaukee Film Festival returns April 16 - 30, 2026! As one of the largest film festivals in the Midwest, MFF is proud to present more than 200 films in our two historic theatres over 15 magical days.
Named one of the coolest film festivals in the world by MovieMaker Magazine, the Milwaukee Film Festival invites you to discover the films, filmmakers, and moments that make cinema special. From international fiction and documentary features to short films, horror films, kids' films, and more, the festival offers something for every kind of moviegoer. Frequent programs include a focus on animation, art and culinary artists, sports, children’s films, science fiction, experimental, midnight and cult films, date night comedies and romances, queer films, Black and Latine films, and music documentaries. MFF spotlights bold new voices, acclaimed filmmakers, unique stories, and work made right here in Milwaukee that resonates far beyond the screen.

Milwaukee Film is proud to be known for its world-class hospitality. All selected filmmakers receive a festival pass and access to the filmmaker festival lounge. MFF encourages attendance from all selected filmmakers and does its best to help financially support the attendance of visiting filmmakers.
Milwaukee Film values the work of artists and offers to pay screening fees to most films selected to screen in the festival.

Milwaukee Film is proud to present multiple cash awards each year. Our juried awards and cash prizes are subject to change for MFF26 as planning for the festival continues. Filmmakers will be notified in advance if their film is being considered for an award. In 2025, we presented the following juried awards:
Luminaries Jury Award
The Luminaries Jury Award is presented to a feature film that was made by a filmmaker who is established in their career. In 2025, the award was presented to MIDDLETOWN (dirs. Jesse Moss, Amanda McBaine) with a cash award of $2,500.
Emerging Documentary Jury Award
The Emerging Documentary Jury Award is presented to a documentary feature film that was made by a filmmaker making their first or second feature film. In 2025, the award was presented to REMAINING NATIVE (dir. Paige Bethmann) with a cash award of $2,500.
Emerging Fiction Jury Award
The Emerging Fiction Jury Award is presented to a fiction feature film that was made by a filmmaker making their first or second feature film. In 2025, the award was presented to OUTERLANDS (dir. Elena Oxman) with a cash award of $2,500.
Shorts Jury Award
The Shorts Jury Award is presented to a short film selected from a collection of shorts that screened during the festival. In 2025, the award was presented to IT SHOULDN'T RAIN TOMORROW (dir. Maria Trigo Teixeira) with a cash award of $1,000.
Milwaukee Film, in its ongoing efforts to inspire and promote filmmaking in southeastern Wisconsin, offers various awards to locally made films. Films selected to screen in competition for these awards will be notified in advance of the festival.
In 2025, the Cream City Cinema Jury Awards were presented to the following films. Each film received a $5,000 cash award as well as various in-kind services:
- WHAT HAPPENED TO DOROTHY BELL? (dir. Danny Villanueva Jr.)
- ZASTAVA BROTHERS (dir. Pep Stojanovic)
- CYCLE (dirs. Laura Kezman, William Howell)
In addition, two audience awards, presented by Allan H. (Bud) and Suzanne L. Selig, are given to the top-rated short- and feature-length films in the festival based on audience ratings. In 2025, the Allan H. (Bud) and Suzanne L. Selig Audience Award for Best Feature was presented to THE LIBRARIANS (dir. Kim A Snyder) with a cash award of $1,000, and the Allan H. (Bud) and Suzanne L. Selig Audience Award for Best Short went to JANE AUSTEN'S PERIOD DRAMA (dirs. Julia Aks and Steve Pinder) with a cash award of $500.
