Welcome to the MILAN SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL (or more commonly known as the home of the finest short films), where the most engaging and surprising short stories come to life on the big screen!
SEPTEMBER // 5-6-7-8 // 2024!
TRADITION AND INNOVATION: ALL IN ONE PLACE
A REAL FESTIVAL with REAL EVENTS. The Milan Shorts offers a great opportunity to both network and gain visibility through its LIVE SCREENINGS in the historic Anteo Palazzo del Cinema (in the very heart of Milan), where you will have the chance to meet artists from all over the world, and where you can show your work and share your ideas!
THE MISSION WITH FUORICINEMA
Milan Shorts is pleased to announce what will be a fruitful collaboration with the Anteo world, and more specifically with the Fuoricinema festival. Fuoricinema is a non-stop marathon of daytime meetings and nighttime screenings, which stems from the desire to collect life experiences, aspirations and reflections developed around the world of cinema, entertainment, culture and information, to put them in circulation as a common heritage. It sees every year guests of the caliber of Matteo Garrone, Marco Bellocchio, Micaela Ramazzotti, Antonio Albanese, Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo, Silvio Soldini, Diego Abatantuono, Paola Cortellesi, Alessandro Borghi, Paolo Virzì, Roberto Vecchioni, Luciano Ligabue, Fiorella Mannoia, Gianni Canova, Lella Costa, Margherita Buy and many others. Thus, stimulating activities and short film competition run by Milan Shorts and exhibitions and meetings with notable members of the Italian film and television industry run by Fuoricinema come together during the days from September 5 to 8.
ACTIVITIES TAILORED ON YOU
Throughout the course of the morning and into the early afternoon, Milan Shorts includes a rich, stimulating and interactive program. The goal is to engage the audience as much as possible, with a special focus on young filmmakers and enthusiasts, through important opportunities to highlight themselves and share their experiences. ACTIVE PANELS on sensitive issues interconnected with filmmaking, EDUCATIONAL PANELS with both national and international short film experts, THE MEET BRIDGE that will pit young artists and well-known members of the industry one in front of the other in a limpid coversation, ROUNDTABLES with directors, actresses, actors and producers of the competing short films. At the end of the screenings, the audience will have the opportunity to meet the authors and ask questions to the protagonists of the short films, encouraging a constructive exchange aimed at analyzing in depth the path that led to the realization of the selected projects. All this, moderated by the presenters.
YOUR BRIDGE TO REACH NEW PEOPLE & INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS
Milan Shorts will organize a NETWORKING EVENT - also attended by artists competing in the festival - designed for young indie artists, in which will also take place a PITCH EVENT with industry experts to propose ideas and projects. New connections, new worlds: all designed for you.
A BIG COMMUNITY
Beyond the competition, the festival identifies itself above all as an inclusive space, aiming to create a COMMUNITY OF ARTISTS united by a single passion: cinema. Follow us on Instagram (@milanshortsfilmfestival) and be part of that! Don't forget to follow Fuoricinema (@_fuoricinema_), too!
A GROUNDBREAKING FESTIVAL
The Milan Shorts highlights not only the selected projects. Throughout the course of the year, some of the projects that submit to us will be promoted FOR FREE through photos, trailers and interviews through our social pages. We are close to the artists, concretely, trying to support your work in the best way possible and offering discounts with our festival partners.

HOW IT WORKS
All selected projects will be screened in the theaters of Anteo Palazzo del Cinema. The two winning projects in the two main categories will be screened on the Fuoricinema outdoor stage at Biblioteca Degli Alberi - BAM. 8 projects will be selected for the Best Short Film section, and 4 projects for the Best NextGen Short Film section. All 12 projects will automatically compete for the technical awards and Audience Award. The Milan Shorts Board and the Fuoricinema Board will decide the selection. The Jury, composed of 8 national and international artists, and headed by a well-known member of the Italian film industry, will decide the winning projects. The winners of the 2 main prizes and 4 technical prizes will join the Academy and thus the jury for the following years.
The Best Short Film winner will receive the 'Meneghino d'Oro' Award.
The Best NextGen Short Film winner will receive the 'Anteo Award'. This section will feature a selection of films that represent new aesthetic and expressive frontiers, with a focus on emerging or as yet lesser-known directors and auteurs, as well as less widespread cinematography.
The Best Director winner will receive the 'Meneghino d'Argento' Award.
