MFA is a celebration of film. We aim to bring together creatives from around the world under one roof to celebrate their creations and inspire the next generation of innovators. Since we started this annual event, we have received thousands of submissions from over 125 countries

At our event we have an award ceremony for our official selections. We also provide a Q&A with winners, live screenings and networking opportunities. We're looking for films with a powerful story and a distinct voice. At MFA we try to focus on providing networking opportunities. We aim to create an international community of creators which pull from each-others expertise. We do this by providing a Networking Booklet which includes information about each filmmaker and their project. We also include their contact information to help build lasting relationships. Customised certificates, laurels and trophies are also provided to our award winners.

Each submission is reviewed by our MFA jury of industry professionals. They judge each submission on 10 different categories including creativity, cinematography, pacing, and writing. This judgment process helps us ensure only the highest quality of submissions make it to our final stage. This stage includes a group jury viewing in which we chose our official selection.

We look forwards to seeing what you submit and hopefully meeting you at one of our upcoming events!

Submission & Evaluation Process:
We create an opportunity for filmmakers to get their films judged and let them compete with other filmmakers. We perform a comprehensive evaluation process and select only high-quality films.

We award in these categories:

- Best Writer
- Best Producer
- Best Soundtrack
- Best Music Video

All submissions will individually be watched by one of our judges, picking the best films. All selected nominees will be contacted 1 month before event date by the MFA team. For our programme selected nominees will need to send their film marketing for promotional purpose for MFA. Tickets will be available to purchase a day after notification date.

From start to finish I have found the Milan Film Festival to be nothing short than extraordinary. I was updated all along the journey of my work from "officially selected" to "award winner". Italy has a rich cinematic heritage, and this is reflected in a large number of passionately run independent cinemas in Milan. I feel privileged that "Dare 2 Disturb" was screened in The discreet Il Cinemino in the historic, Porta Romana. Milanโ€™s arthouse cinemas are leading the way. This morning I received the Award Trophy which is beautifully designed and very heavy. When I see this, it will inspire me evermore, and I'm very grateful for this newly acquired feeling.

  • I was thrilled to have won 'Best Producer' for my documentary '1 Billion' at this festival. Unfortunately I was unable to attend. But based on my communication with them, which was excellent, I will be submitting my new drama 'Aretha' into the next one as I believe it is a fantastic festival that genuinely wants to support and promote the filmmaker. Unlike many festivals starting out, the Milan Film Awards award Trophies and Certificates to the winners, also they promote your work among industry professionals. The festival is well run by people that understand the importance of film and they chose such an eclectic assortment of films from around the world providing quality work, there was something for everyone to enjoy. I wish them great success and I know I will be flying over from Ireland to attend future festivals. I will also be informing filmmakers in Ireland of this festival, encouraging them to submit their work. Well done to all and I hope to see you all in 2020.

Winning "Best Short Documentary" for my film GRATEFUL is a tremendous honor. Milan Film Awards is now on a special list of "key festivals" that I will submit my next film to... What more do I need to say?
