Calling all storytellers!

The inaugural McDonough Storytellers Film Festival will be held on June 5th and 6th, 2026 in multiple locations in the gorgeous historic McDonough town square, approximately 30 miles South of Atlanta, GA. Created to celebrate the art of storytelling through numerous mediums, ranging from traditional categories like feature film, screenplay, and shorts to more unique categories like advertising, audio drama, movie poster, book cover, novel, and music video, We are also accepting gaming cut scenes, cinematics and trailers, as long as they fit into the chosen category.

We are also especially interested in stories that celebrate a positive aspect of humanity, stories told by women, stories created by first time film makers over 40, and stories told through music by celebrating best original score and song. These will all be honored with special prizes at the discretion of the judges and screening committee.

We are looking for the most compelling and talented storytellers to showcase their craft and celebrate their talents. What is your story?

The two day McDonough Storytellers Film Festival will include a jam packed agenda of industry panels, seminars and workshops led by industry leaders, networking galas and hand curated screenings at our venues in the McDonough Square with lots of local businesses participating in the 2 day festivities. The festival will be anchored out of the beautifully renovated 1910 historic masonic lodge which is now home of McDonough's Indie bookstore "Story on the Square" The other downtown festival venues offer a more intimate space that include both indoor and outdoor seating to accommodate a variety of screenings, panels, performances and workshops.

Come and celebrate the art of storytelling and explore the historic square with all it's charming shops, restaurants and picturesque spaces during the Storytellers Film Festival.

There is ample free parking in and around the McDonough downtown square.

Screening my first short film at the McDonough Storytellers Film Festival was a rewarding and memorable experience, and an important milestone in my filmmaking journey.
One of the things that stood out most was how much more than just a film festival it felt like. In addition to film screenings, the festival also featured audio dramas, script readings, panels, and workshops. That range of programming created a broader creative environment where different forms of storytelling were being celebrated side by side.
The setting also added to the experience. Downtown McDonough’s historic square gave the festival a distinct atmosphere that made the entire weekend feel welcoming and engaging. It was easy to spend time between events connecting with other filmmakers, attending sessions, and taking in the surroundings.
I also appreciated the overall organization and the ease of attending, which made the focus stay where it should be—on the storytelling and the creative work being shared.
Having my first short film included in a festival that values multiple forms of storytelling made the experience especially meaningful. I’m grateful to have been part of it and would highly recommend the McDonough Storytellers Film Festival to filmmakers who appreciate a diverse, thoughtfully curated creative space.

Sadly I couldn't make it to McDonough Storytellers this year, but my cast attended in my place and came back with nothing but great things to say. They felt genuinely welcomed and looked after, and were impressed by how thoughtfully the festival is run. It's clearly a festival on the rise, and the care put into the experience shows. Grateful to have had Pyre screen here, and looking forward to making it out in person next time.

I am so honoured and happy to be part of your first festival - and it was my first festival too both to be accepted and nominated with "let's play Hamlet". Now I am more encouraged to make more films and do storytelling :))

I really wished to be there, it meant a lot for me. Especially I wanna live more as a storytelling-artist :) hehe.

  • Very well organized, many award categories, great attention to technical requirements for playing the films, right on schedule, fun historic locations for film presentations and food, convenient hotels, friendly staff and volunteers, interesting panels and discussions. I was thrilled and honored to have my first film chosen an Official Selection, and after seeing the other incredible, international selections, I was even more proud to be a part of the event. It was worth driving from Oklahoma, and I would do it again!
