Based in Toronto, ON, Mathias Keslar Tom Yew is a 20 year old queer and trans student filmmaker. With expertise in production management and design, he aspires to tell stories that often go unheard.
Mathias K. Tom Yew is a Producer and Production Designer currently in Humber College’s Film and Television Production program. Most recently, he was the costume designer and special effects for Maybe I Am the Villain; an independent short dramatic action directed by Max Presement that is currently in post-production. Previously, he was the art director on the studio drama Sisterhood. He was also the producer of the short documentary More Than a Disorder, which has been accepted into multiple film festivals. He's also made two independent short films while at Humber; The Study, a dramatic short, and Oracle of Delphi, a poetic short.
He’s always had a passion for visuals and aesthetics, and is particularly interested in special effects makeup, wardrobe creation, interior design, and prop management. As costume designer & special effects for Maybe I Am the Villain, he worked closely with the director to perfect the look of each character. He also did all on-set makeup application and practical special effects. On Sisterhood, he was responsible for the Creature’s design, as well as the set design of the basement. Moving forward, Mathias intends on pursuing leadership roles in art, as well as improving his creative and design skills. He’s also looking to further his skills in special effects makeup and practical effects, as it’s been a longstanding passion of his. Alongside this, he is working on his abilities in production management and producing for future projects and his career in the industry.
