MalatestaShort is an international short film festival, based in Cesena, Italy
8 – 13 May 2020

The mission of the festival is to reflect on the forms of short films. The festival explores and evaluates both traditional and non-standard styles and genres of audiovisual experiences, such as video art, social videos and experimental film-making.
MalatestaShort Film Festival offers the opportunity to inspect and analyze the social meaning and role of movie-making and viewing, also re-imagining the location of cinema venues.
From the 4th edition, the festival is articulated in a twofold section: the official competition and the extended cinema.
Official competition
The official competition shows the best of international short production in four categories: Fiction, Animation, Documentary and Experimental.
Short films, which may last from 1 up to 30 minutes and must have been produced after 1st January 2017, will be admitted to the competition without any restriction of content, theme, style or form.
The jury of the official competition is composed of filmmakers, film critics and creative artists.
All the films will be screened at Cinema Eliseo in original language, subtitled in Italian by expert translators, and in their highest quality (DCP). A DCP is not required for submission and the Festival organization will guarantee its production.

Extended cinema
"Extended Cinema" is the selection of short movies, which will take into account short films according to their themes (society, environment, psychology, architecture, ecc.), their specific language or technique (found footage, art films, ecc.) and their production (film academy, smartphone films, ecc.). Our staff will outline and define its stylistic boundaries at the end of the selection process.
These screenings will take place in non-conventional venues and will devote their attention to the connection between a film and its screening location.
The Extended Cinema prize will be awarded by Albedo, the organising team of the festival.

Malatestashort Film Festival 2020
EXTENDED CINEMA
ABOUT
