This is the fourth year of the annual Makona Fraternity Short Film Festival hosted and organized by Makona Fraternity at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. This festival, spearheaded in 2021 by the efforts of Men of Makona Noah Wagner & Jordan Mackey, encourages filmmakers to explore bold ideas and original stories, offering a forum for emerging talent from McMurry University, Abilene, and surrounding Texas communities.

The event will be held on March 4th at The Historic Grace Museum! Our mission is to bring the community together through the art of film while supporting students' artistic growth. The 2025 theme, Cult Classics, inspires filmmakers but does not restrict submissions to any specific genre. All are welcome to submit! From students to passionate working professionals & classes to church groups, Makona wants to see quality films from every corner of the community!

Since its creation, one goal of Makona Film Fest has been to be ever-expanding, always bigger and better than the prior year. In pursuit of that goal, this year, we will be offering more film slots, so there are more opportunities for passionate works to shine than ever! Accordingly, we are also expanding the awards and bringing back a Makona Film Fest classic, our awards, formerly and currently, the Zappies! This year, we're offering over $1000 in prizing and are excited for submissions to start rolling in! Ticketing will be open soon, CRACKABOOM.
