1. Admission requirements
Directors must be originally from or nationals of a country in the Americas and the work submitted must have been produced mainly by a production company registered in a country in the Americas.
The Festival offers a Feature Film Competition (Fiction and Non-Fiction), whose works must have a minimum duration of 60 minutes, and a Short Film Competition (Fiction and Non-Fiction), whose works must have a maximum duration of 15 minutes.
Films submitted to the Official Competition must have been completed after December 1, 2024, and must maintain the condition of not having been presented in Madrid by the Festival dates if they are admitted to the Madrid Film Festival of the Americas. Exceptionally, the Festival may waive the exclusive premiere requirement, taking into account that the film in question has had only a limited number of presentations in Spain.
2. Profile
The Madrid Film Festival of the Americas accepts submissions from fiction and non-fiction films that meet the requirements of length, origin/nationality of their director(s), and production date indicated in Section 1 of these rules, regardless of their theme, type, or format. However, it is important to emphasize that the Madrid Film Festival of the Americas focuses on independent films with a distinctly artistic nature and authorial risk.
The festival does not select news, journalistic, promotional, or corporate films. Special attention is paid to films seeking distribution in Spain.
3. Registration
The registration fee for the Festival will correspond to that established for each of the three established deadlines. In the case of feature films, it will be 15 Euros in the early registration term, 25 Euros in the regular term and 35 Euros in the extended term. In the case of short films, the fee will be 10 Euros for the early registration term, 15 Euros for the regular registration term and 20 Euros for the extended registration term. Interested parties are encouraged to take advantage of the early registration term.
Entries must be made exclusively through the Filmfreeway platform. The registration process for the second edition of the festival will open on May 16, 2025 and will run until December 31 of the same year. Films must be in their original version and subtitled in Spanish if their dialogues are in a language other than Spanish. This condition must be fulfilled both for the pre-selection phase and in the case of being admitted to the Official Competition.
4. Selection
Filmmakers whose films have been selected for the Festival's Official Competition will be contacted personally and must reserve the right to submit their work until the Festival announces the full program for the event. Once a film has been submitted, it cannot be withdrawn. The Official Selection will be published on the Festival's website and will also be announced in the media and on social media on October 4th, 2026.
5. Information Section
In addition to the Official Competition, the Madrid Film Festival of the Americas may organize one or more non-competitive screenings, reserved for works of exceptional quality.
6. Copy, projection file and subtitling
The copy of the selected film must be submitted to the festival in DCP format, and additionally, as a backup, in H264 (.MOV) files. The selected films will be screened in their original language and with Spanish subtitles (printed) if their dialogue is in a language other than Spanish. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the producers or rights holders of the admitted films to submit the aforementioned files in strict compliance with the indicated conditions.
7. Documentation
The information and promotional documentation for each admitted film must be submitted to the Festival for publication in the catalog. Unless otherwise instructed, the information provided on the film's registration form at the time of pre-selection will be reproduced in the catalog and other Festival communication materials. Photographs submitted, particularly for the catalog and other Festival publications, may be used free of charge by the media in any of the Festival's promotional documents and on its website. A free HD file containing a 2-3 minute excerpt from the film (without watermark) must also be provided, with the express permission of the film's producer or rights holder, for television broadcast and for use in Festival ceremonies and, if applicable, on the Festival's website and social media during and after the Festival, exclusively for the promotion of the Madrid Film Festival of the Americas.

9. Promotion
The producer, director, distributor or whoever is in charge of handling the admitted films undertakes to mention in the credits and in all advertising and promotional material of the participating films the emblem of the Official Selection at the "Madrid Film Festival of the Americas" and, in the case of an award-winning film, the full mention or emblem of the prize awarded, followed by the year of presentation of the film at the Festival.
10. General provisions
The authorization of the authors or rights holders for the screening of the selected works by the festival during the festival is implicit, and there are no contractual obligations on the part of the Madrid Film Festival of the Americas organizers toward the material or intellectual author of the work, or any other management company. The organizers assume that the persons submitting their works have the exhibition rights to the works they present, as well as authorization to receive an award. In any case, the organizers are exempt from any liability that may arise from the violation of these rules.
Films Austères Europe SL, the organizer of the Madrid Film Festival of the Americas, is empowered to resolve any cases not covered by these regulations. It reserves the right to interrupt, cancel, or postpone the event or to modify these regulations at any time, depending on its operational needs. In this case, no compensation will be granted to participants. Participation in the Madrid Film Festival of the Americas implies acceptance of these regulations.
ESPAÑOL / SPANISH:
1. Requisitos de admisión
Lo(a)s directore(a)s deben ser originario(a)s o nacionales de un país de las Américas y la obra presentada debe haber sido producida mayoritariamente por una compañía productora registrada en un país de las Américas.
El Festival dispone de una Competencia de Largometrajes (Ficción y No Ficción) cuyas obras deben tener una duración mínima de 60 minutos y una Competencia de Cortometrajes (Ficción y No Ficción, cuyas obras tendrán una duración máxima de 15 minutos.
Las películas presentadas a la Competición Oficial deben haber sido terminadas después del 1 de diciembre de 2024 y deben conservar la condición de no haber sido presentadas en Madrid para las fechas de realización del Festival en caso de ser admitidas en el Madrid Festival de Cine de las Américas. Excepcionalmente, el Festival podrá eximir el requisito de estreno exclusivo tomando en cuenta que el filme en cuestión haya tenido solo un escaso número de presentaciones en territorio español.
2. Perfil
El Madrid Festival de Cine de las Américas acepta la postulación de películas de ficción y no ficción que cumplan con los requisitos de duración, origen/nacionalidad de sus directore(a)s y fecha de producción señalados en el Punto 1 de estas bases, sea cual sea su tema, tipo o forma. No obstante, es importante destacar que el Madrid Festival de Cine de las Américas centra su atención en filmes independientes, de marcada naturaleza artística y riesgo autoral.
El festival no selecciona informativos, obras de carácter periodístico, promocional o películas corporativas. Se presta especial atención a las películas que buscan distribución en España.
3. Inscripción
La tasa de inscripción en el Festival corresponderá a la establecida en cada uno de los tres plazos establecidos. En el caso de los largometrajes, será de 15 Euros en el plazo temprano de inscripciones, 25 en el período regular y 35 en el plazo extendido. En el caso de los cortometrajes, la tasa será de 10 Euros en el plazo temprano, 15 Euros en el plazo regular y de 20 Euros en el plazo extendido. Se exhorta a los interesados a aventajarse del plazo temprano de inscripciones.
Las inscripciones deberán ser hechas exclusivamente a través de la plataforma Filmfreeway. El proceso de recepción de inscripciones para la segunda edición del festival abrirá el día 16 de mayo de 2025 y se extenderá hasta el 31 de diciembre del mismo año. Las películas deben estar en versión original y estar subtituladas en español en caso de que sus diálogos sean en lengua distinta al español. Esta condición debe ser cumplida tanto para la fase de preselección como en el caso de ser admitidas en la Competición Oficial.
4. Selección
Los cineastas cuya película haya sido seleccionada para la Competición Oficial del Festival serán contactados personalmente y deberán mantener en reserva la admisión de su obra hasta que el Festival haga público el conjunto de la programación del evento. Una vez inscrita una película, no puede retirarse. La Selección Oficial se publicará en la página web del Festival y será asimismo será dada a conocer en medios y redes sociales el día 4 de octubre de 2026.
5. Sección Informativa
Además de la Competición Oficial, el Madrid Festival de Cine de las Américas podrá conformar una muestra o muestras no competitivas, reservadas a obras de excepcional calidad.
6. Copia, archivo de proyección y subtitulación
La copia de la película seleccionada deberá ser consignada al festival en formato DCP, y adicionalmente como respaldo, en archivo H264 (.MOV). Las películas seleccionadas se proyectarán en el idioma original y con subtítulos en español (impresos) en caso que sus diálogos sean en lengua distinta al español. Por tanto, es responsabilidad de los productores o titulares de los derechos de las películas admitidas consignar los mencionados archivos cumpliendo estrictamente las condiciones indicadas.
7. Documentación
La documentación informativa y promocional de cada película admitida deberá entregarse al Festival para su publicación en el catálogo. Salvo instrucciones en sentido contrario, la información facilitada en el formulario de inscripción de la película al momento de la preselección se reproducirá en el catálogo y en el resto del material de comunicación del Festival. Las fotografías presentadas, en particular para el catálogo y otras publicaciones del Festival, podrán ser utilizadas gratuitamente por los medios de comunicación en cualquiera de los documentos promocionales del Festival y en su sitio web. También se deberá proporcionar, con permiso expreso del productor o titular de los derechos de la película y de forma gratuita, un archivo HD con un extracto de 2 a 3 min. de la película (sin marca de agua), para su difusión por televisión y también para su uso en las ceremonias del festival y, eventualmente, en la página web del festival y las redes sociales durante y después del festival, exclusivamente para la promoción del Madrid Festival de Cine de las Américas.

9. Promoción
El productor, director, distribuidor o quien sea halle a cargo del manejo de las películas que resulten admitidas, se compromete a mencionar en los títulos de crédito y en todo el material publicitario y promocional de los filmes participantes el emblema de Selección Oficial en el «Madrid Festival de Cine de las Américas» y, en el caso de una película premiada, la mención completa o emblema del premio concedido, seguida del año de presentación de la película en el Festival.
10. Disposición general
La autorización de los autores o de los titulares de estos derechos para la proyección por parte del festival de las obras seleccionadas durante el festival es implícita, sin que existan obligaciones contractuales por parte de la organización del «Madrid Festival de Cine de las Américas» hacia el autor material o intelectual de la obra, o cualquier otra sociedad de gestión. La organización asume que las personas que inscriben las obras tienen los derechos de exhibición de las obras que presentan, así como la autorización para recibir un premio. En cualquier caso, la organización queda eximida de cualquier responsabilidad que pudiera derivarse de la infracción de estas bases.
Films Austères Europe SL, organizadora del Madrid Festival de Cine de las Américas, está facultada para resolver todos los casos no previstos en el presente reglamento. Se reserva el derecho de interrumpir, suprimir o aplazar el evento o de modificar el presente reglamento en cualquier momento,en función de sus necesidades operativas. En este caso, no se concederá ningún tipo de indemnización a los participantes. La participación en el Madrid Festival de Cine de las Américas implica la aceptación del presente reglamento.
