Now entering its seventh year, MOM Film Fest is a mom-led nonprofit short film festival for independent filmmakers supporting mothers working in independent film and television. Our annual short film festival highlights powerful storytelling from across all genres while creating visibility, community, and career opportunities for filmmakers who are mothers.

We accept short films of any genre. The only requirement is that a mom served in a leadership role on the filmmaking team.

From thrillers to documentaries to comedies, we welcome all genres. For films that explore motherhood directly, our Best Mom-themed Film award is one of the festival’s top honors.

MOM Film Fest, Inc. is a grassroots, mom led 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves as a career development and advocacy resource for mothers working in film and television. Our mission is to #LeaveNoMomBehind by amplifying content created by moms and building opportunities that help get #MomsBackOnSet and back to work across the industry.

Mothers remain underrepresented across the filmmaking landscape. Alongside ongoing struggles for parity, racial equity, and inclusion, women in film and television often face additional conscious and unconscious bias once it becomes known that they are mothers. As a result, many continue to mother in the shadows, feeling pressure to hide this part of their identity. MOM Film Fest exists to help change that.

Our annual festival was created by mom filmmakers for mom filmmakers, but anyone is welcome to submit as long as a mom held a leadership role on the project. To be considered for Best Director, Best Cinematographer, or Outstanding Performance, a mom must have served in that specific role on the project.

We accept short films of any genre made after 2019 with a maximum runtime of 30 minutes. Our screeners are all moms and all filmmakers.

MOM Film Fest takes place each August online and in-person. Visit our website for more information.

Highly recommend! Tonya and her team have created such a supportive and high quality festival. The films were all top notch and I loved the virtual mixer for all the filmmakers. The communication was the best of any festival I've participated in so far. The sense of community and inclusion (especially for me, a first-time filmmaker) was so special and inspiring. Will definitely be submitting again!

  • This is how all festivals should feel. The community that Tonya and her team created is so welcoming and supportive. I always find wonderful filmmakers to connect with at this festival. The emphasis on Moms who work in film is such a needed and appreciated feeling. I will always submit my work and support MOM Film Fest.

I'm so honored that my short documentary #whitehairdontcare: A New Era in Beauty was selected and nominated for Best Short Documentary at this years MOM Festival! My favorite part was the online mixer Tonya held for us filmmakers, where I had the chance to meet and speak with other filmmakers and learn from their experiences. I highly reccommend this film festival for all Mom filmmakers - they really take good care of us!
