OFFICIAL REGULATIONS
1. General Provisions
Organizer: Between August 19 and August 23, 2026, the Maramureș Museum, an
institution under the authority of the Sighetu Marmației Municipality City Hall, organizes the Maramureș International Film Festival 2026. MMIFF2026 is part of the project "Intercultural consciousness of multinational cities: tolerance of new generation - InterCities", funded through the Interreg VI-A NEXT Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine program and implemented in partnership with the Executive Committee of the Ivano-Frankivsk Local Council as the lead partner. Producer&Co-organizer: Yakasha Film.
Objective: Promoting intercultural dialogue.
Location/Period: Muzeul Satului Maramureșean/ Maramureș Village Museum (film
screenings take place outdoors, between 21:30 and 01:00), Sighetu Marmației, Maramureș
County, Romania.
Public Access: Free
2. Film Genres
Fiction Short Film: International and national narrative films.
Animation Short Film: Animated films produced using any technique.
Documentary Short Film: Productions based on real facts and non-fictional perspectives.
Experimental Short Film: Non-narrative films.
3. Eligibility Criteria
Maximum Duration: Submitted films must not exceed 15 minutes, including the closing
credits.
o For films in the competition dedicated to high school students from Sighetu
Marmației, Maramureș County, the maximum duration is 5 minutes.
Production Date: Only films completed after January 1, 2025, are accepted.
Premiere Status: Priority will be given to films at their national or regional premiere.
Screening Format: High-resolution digital files (DCP, Apple ProRes, or MP4/MOV H264
format, minimum Full HD 1080p resolution).
Language and Subtitles: Films in languages other than English must have burned-in
English subtitles (submitted films must be accompanied by the translated English dialogues
in SRT format). Selected films will subsequently receive Romanian translation.
The organizers reserve the right to invite films that do not comply with the conditions
imposed by the official regulations.
4. Submission Process
Authorized Platforms: Submissions are made exclusively online via the specialized
platform FilmFreeway.
The organizers reserve the right to directly invite films for both competitive and non
competitive sections.
High school students from Sighetu Marmației will send their films/links directly to the email address: films@mmiff.ro.
Deadlines: * Regular deadline: July 25.
o Regular deadline (high school productions): August 01.
Submission Fees: NO ENTRY FEE.
5. Film Selection
Selection Committee: A team consisting of film critics, directors, and producers selects the films for the competitive program.
Official Announcement: The selection results will be communicated to the filmmakers and the general public on AUGUST 5, 2026. The decision regarding the selected films is final.
Screening Rights: Once participation is confirmed, the selected film can no longer be
withdrawn from the festival program.
6. Jury and Awards
Jury Structure: The jury consists of a minimum of 3 personalities from the film industry.

o Best Short Film Award - international competition
o Crossing Borders Award - international competition
o InterCities Awards - awards dedicated to productions from Hungary, Slovakia,
Romania, Ukraine
o Best International Student Film Award - international competition
o Best Romanian Student Film Award (narrative) - national competition
o Best Romanian Student Film Award (non-narrative) - national competition
o Best Documentary Film Award - international competition
o Anti Boogeyman Award - international competition
o Best Animated Film - international competition
o Best Experimental Film Award - international competition
o Best High School Award (competition reserved for high school students from Sighetu
Marmației, Maramureș County)
o Audience Award - international competition
(All producers/directors of the selected films will receive proof of participation in MMIFF2026).
7. Copyright and Licensing
Responsibility: The participant guarantees that they hold all copyrights (direction, script, cinematography, music) for the submitted film. The organizers do not assume legal liability for any intellectual property rights infringements.
Promotional Materials: The organizers may use images, trailers, and video excerpts from the film (up to a maximum of 10% of the total duration, but no more than 3 minutes) strictly for promotional purposes (TV, print, and online press).
8. Final Provisions
Acceptance of Regulations: Submitting a film to the festival implies the unconditional
acceptance of all provisions of these regulations.
Disputes: Any unforeseen situation not covered by these regulations will be resolved
directly by the Festival Director, whose decision shall be final. Any legal dispute not
resolved amicably will be submitted for settlement to the competent judicial courts in
Romania.
