As always, we're looking for original, inventive experimental films that reflect the diverse perspectives of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Our festival offers a platform for filmmakers, artists, and creators to showcase their work, connect with audiences, and participate in meaningful dialogue.
In light of our mandate, we only consider submissions that:
- Are created by queer filmmakers and/or involve queer concepts, subjects, or themes.
- Challenge conventional filmmaking practices.
Granted the above criteria is met, we accept submissions across all modes and lengths (up to 90 minutes), and from filmmakers at any stage of their careers.
Trans and BIPOC Filmmakers are encouraged to apply.
Statement on AI
We believe that film is a medium of human expression. While we recognize that Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers groundbreaking tools for creativity, our priority remains the protection of human artistry, intellectual property, and ethical production standards. This policy ensures transparency and fairness for all filmmakers, whether they use traditional methods or emerging technologies. While Assistive AI (e.g., upscaling, noise reduction, color grading) does not require detailed disclosure, "Prompt-Only" works (films generated entirely via text prompts without significant human editorial intervention) are currently ineligible for competition. All applicants must declare the use of Generative AI (e.g., text-to-video, AI scriptwriting, synthetic voices) at the top of the submission form. Failure to disclose significant AI usage or the use of non-consensual deepfakes may result in disqualification.
Materials
Films must be viewable via FilmFreeway. If your film is password protected, please provide the password and ensure the link remains active through September 15, 2026. Still photos from your work are requested with your submission and are required for all films selected for the festival. You are also encouraged to enclose a work description, production credits, press information, and any other pertinent information regarding your film.
Submission Fee
A limited number of discounted submission fees are reserved for filmmakers experiencing financial strain that would otherwise prevent them from submitting. MIX allots a small number of fee waivers for filmmakers based in countries that cannot legally send money to the U.S. Requests can be directed to programming@mixnyc.org. Entry fees are not refundable.
Rough Cuts & Works-in-Progress
Rough cuts and works-in-progress are eligible for submission if the film will be complete by August 15, 2026. If you do submit such a version, please include “WIP” in your file name, and specify what is subject to change (i.e. temp sound, needs color correction, etc.).
Terms & Conditions
Upon acceptance, MIX can facilitate the projection of 35mm, 16mm, and DCP formats. Selected filmmakers will be expected to grant to MIX NYC a non-exclusive license to use an excerpt of their work (<2 minutes) for promotional purposes. MIX must be notified in writing of any press restrictions, including hold reviews.
Accessibility
All filmmakers who submit to the festival are encouraged to include captioning. If your film is selected, captions will be required to ensure accessibility for the D/deaf and hard of hearing community.
Festival Dates
Subject to change until October 31, 2026.
