GENERAL APPLICATION RULES FOR THE FILM COMPETITION - MANIFEST 2024
1. PRESENTATION
MANIFEST - Mafra Animation Film Festival is organised by Lagar Imaginário - Cultural Association and funded by the Mafra City Hall.
MANIFEST promotes the appreciation and dissemination of animation films in the local, national and international community and in the school environment.
MANIFEST intends to raise public engagement in and awareness of the artistic and cultural value of animation film by bringing the public and authors together.
Its second edition will take place between September 27th and 29th 2024, in Ericeira, Mafra, Portugal.
2. ADMISSION OF FILMS
a) ELIGIBILITY
We consider an animated film to be one that is shot frame by frame, in any animation technique. The animated sequences must correspond to more than 60% of the total duration of the film.
The submitted films must have been completed after 2021.
b) CATEGORIZATION
MANIFEST admits animated films in the following categories:
Short Film Competition - Films under 20 minutes in length;
Best Music Film - Films under 20 minutes in length that use music as the main subject;
Student Competition - Films produced in a school context.
c) WIP/WORK IN PROGRESS
Applicants with films in progress may enter them, identifying WIP in the title of the film in the submission.
It is up to the selection panel to decide if the film meets the conditions to be evaluated while still in progress.
d) LANGUAGE
Films with dialogues or text in frame in a language other than English must include English subtitles.
3. REGISTRATION
Registration is completely free and must be done by the distributor, rights holder or director at https://filmfreeway.com/MANIFEST-1.
e) DEADLINES
All submissions must be made by May 31, 2024.
f) RIGHTS AND AUTHORIZATION
By submitting your film, the applicant authorises the festival organisation: to screen the film on the dates and locations set for the festival; to use parts of the film, up to 10% of its total length (but not more than 1 minute) or an official trailer provided for promotional purposes; to use stills from the film and other documentation accompanying the film for promotional purposes, such as press kit, catalogue, social media, website, newsletter or other promotional materials.
The applicant may not charge the festival for exhibition rights of films selected for competition.
The applicant grants the organisation permission to include the film in non-profit screenings or events taking place after the end of the festival, namely in best of programs, winners' screenings or in a school or teaching context. Applicants are always informed in advance about screening dates and venues.
g) SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIALS
A link must be provided for previewing the film, through an online platform (Vimeo, Youtube, Google drive, Dropbox, or equivalent).
Supplementary material and information should be made available to complete the film's entry, namely photographs, images, biographies, filmographies, dialogue list in English, subtitles, press pack and premiere status.
4. SELECTION
h) SELECTION COMMITTEE
The selection committee will choose the films for the official selection of the festival. The jury's decision is final and cannot be appealed.
i) NOTIFICATION OF SELECTION
Applicants whose films are selected for competition will be notified by email.
The screening format will be announced in the selection email.
Selected films will be announced on the festival website.
j) PREMIERE STATUS
Upon notification of selection, the candidate must inform the festival organisation about the premiere status of their film in the festival: World Premiere; International Premiere; European Premiere; Portuguese Premiere.
k) SHIPPING
The shipping of screening copies in physical support to MANIFEST is the applicant's responsibility.
l) STORAGE OF COPIES ON DIGITAL SUPPORT
After the official exhibition, the organisation will store all digital copies on file, unless otherwise indicated.
5. INVITATION TO FILMMAKERS
MANIFEST invites the directors of each film to participate in the festival to present their film. The director must be present at the presentation of his film during the respective session and participate in the meetings with directors and audience. The applicant will be informed of the conditions assured in the selection email.
6. LIST OF AWARDS
Best international student short film;
Best portuguese student short film;
Best international short film;
Best portuguese short film;
Best music Film.
The winners will be awarded a certificate and a trophy.
A special mention may be added to all categories, with the awarding of a certificate.
7. COMPETITION JURY
In no way will the members of the jury be involved in any of the films in competition.
Jury members will be announced by the organisation on the festival website.
During the festival, the Jury will determine the winning films in each competition listed above.
The Jury's decision is final and cannot be appealed.
8. FINAL PROVISIONS
MANIFEST may make exceptions to the provisions of these Regulations, without prejudice or favor to any candidate or film.
Any omitted cases will be resolved by the MANIFEST organisation.
By submitting an entry, the candidate agrees to the provisions of these Regulations.
