Lost River Film Fest – hosted in the magical, spring-fed river town of San Marcos, in Austin's outskirts – spotlights independent cinema from Feb 4-7, 2027 for our tenth year running!

Soaked in a youthful, progressive, small-town-Texas vibe, Lost River intends to prove a splendid cocktail of compelling cinema, live music, poetry performances & much more.

The film fest is presented by San Marcos Cinema Club, the 501c3 film society of the nation’s fastest growing town of its size.

Lost River — titled for our town’s fictional name in the campy, locally shot, 1978 horror film PIRANHA — exhibits short films & features, yielded from an international open call for submissions.

We've abandoned awards – tried a few times and felt like asses for declaring some folks "winners" and thereby implying the other great creators were somehow losers.

Art doesn't work like that, of course.

Getting selected for our program is hopefully deemed a prize of sorts – plus our handsome mermaid-tail laurels – plus our fest is mighty fun to attend! Don't take our word for it – look at filmmaker reviews of our fest!

  • The Lost River Film Festival is a vital platform for independent creators. I am deeply grateful to the organizers for screening my film, BLOOD BOX. Beyond just providing a screen, they gave me a meaningful opportunity to speak on mental health awareness and military veteran PTSD — topics that are often difficult to navigate. The atmosphere in San Marcos was incredibly supportive, and the dialogue sparked by the screenings was invaluable. Highly recommended for filmmakers who want their work to truly connect with an audience.
