LIMINAL (LMNL) celebrates dance film and projection mapping as powerful mediums for capturing the unspoken essence of our bodies, communities, and shared humanity. Featuring artists whose interdisciplinary practices push the boundaries of Dance Cinema, the festival highlights work that reflects movement’s profound ability to connect, transform, and reveal.

Rooted in the concept of "liminality"—the threshold between one state and another—the festival embraces works that exist in the in-between spaces: between body and image, tradition and innovation, presence and memory.

LMNL seeks to champion voices from around the world while highlighting the incredible talent of the DMV region, creating a platform where local and international artists converge to explore new dimensions of movement on screen.

**The LIMINAL Dance Film Festival is a Live 3-day Event taking place on April 24-26, 2026 at Dance Place in Washington DC.**

Such a wonderful first year for this festival! From the moment you arrived, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting, largely thanks to the Liminal and Dance Place staff, who were not only organized but genuinely personable. They greeted guests with real enthusiasm, took time to answer questions, and made both filmmakers and audience members feel welcome.

The programming reflected that same level of care. The selection of films felt intentional and diverse, giving each piece space to resonate. Screenings were intimate and immersive. The inclusion of live mixed media performances was a standout element, highlighting how technology can expand and enhance the experience of dance. It was also especially meaningful that so many filmmakers were present, both local and visiting, reinforcing a sense of connection and dialogue throughout the festival.

What lingered most wasn’t just the films themselves, but the feeling of having been part of something special. The combination of thoughtful programming, approachable staff, and an intimate setting created an experience that felt both artistically engaging and genuinely welcoming. I left the weekend feeling deeply inspired and with new artistic connections.
