The Kyoto Independent Film Festival is an inclusive online platform dedicated to showcasing the best of independent cinema from around the world. Celebrating creativity, diversity, and innovation, this festival invites filmmakers of all backgrounds to present their unique voices and stories through both short and feature-length films. The festival aims to provide a space where emerging talents and seasoned filmmakers alike can connect with global audiences, share their art, and inspire meaningful conversations through the power of film.

As a general film festival, the Kyoto Independent Film Festival welcomes a variety of genres and styles, from narrative and documentary to experimental and animated films. The festival seeks to foster a vibrant community of filmmakers, cinephiles, and industry professionals who are passionate about storytelling and cinematic art.

Rules and regulations :
Entries should be music videos, films or docs from 2022 onwards.

WHO CAN SUBMIT A NOMINATION:

– Nominations can be submitted by any associate of the program.
– Eligible associates include hosts, producers, production companies, studios, channels, networks, web platforms, sponsors, managers, agents, publicists, representatives, distributors and device systems.
– By submitting a program or content, the entrant warrants that they have the authority to do so, including all relevant licensing and permits.

SUBMISSION PROCESS

– To submit a nomination, please complete the Entry Form
– On the Entry form, an online link should be provided where the Judge’s panel can view/hear/or review a sample(s) of the Entry. In the case of films, an online screening site is acceptable.
– All nominations submitted should be accompanied by the Entry Fee. Nominations not submitted with an Entry Fee will not be reviewed. (Duplicate entries will not be refunded)
– All Entries must be in English (native, dubbed, or subtitled)
- Music Video must be under 8 minutes in length
- For short films, the maximum time is 40 minutes.
- Micro-short film is considered a film that is less than 5 minutes.
- By sending the film to our Festival, the filmmaker undertakes to have all the film’s rights and present it in the festival environment.
- If you register for the Festival, your money will be non-refundable.
- The Festival has complete independence and freedom in choosing films. If a movie is selected, the Festival office will contact the entrant by phone or email. The Festival does not provide feedback or screening notes to entries that are not selected.
- This Festival is held voluntarily by a group of volunteers. Its members’ goal is to respond to filmmakers in the shortest possible time within a maximum of three days.
- We accept films of all genres.
- Multiple entries from the same submitter are accepted. A separate submission and a separate entry fee must accompany each entry.

ADDITIONAL TERMS
• The Submitter warrants that all rights, licenses, clearances, and releases, for all audio and archival film or video used in the production have been secured or are unnecessary.
• The Submitter warrants that relevant appearance releases for all people featured in the submission have been secured or are unnecessary.
• The Submitter has obtained all of the appropriate rights and clearances of copyrighted material(s).
• The Submitter has obtained all required approvals, clearances, licenses, etc., for the use of the program material contained in this program, and will provide such clearances if requested by the Festival.
