Since our founding in 2001, Korea Queer Film Festival (KQFF) is an annual event held in Seoul, Korea, as part of the Seoul Queer Culture Festival (SQCF)—the largest LGBTQ+ festival in Korea visited by more than 150,000 people. Starting from a small screening event, KQFF has achieved significant growth, programming more than 70 films last year and marking its 20th anniversary next year. As a non-profit organization run by volunteers, the mission of KQFF is to celebrate diversity and develop cultural resources for the LGBTQ+ community, bringing the queer’s voices on screen. KQFF works as the public sphere for cultural/political agendas, including anti-discrimination law and its legislation, the possibility of identity politics, and irregularities in social structures.
KQFF visualizes diverse sexual orientation and gender of LGBTQ+ communities by programming 「𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴/𝘍𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 (𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘊𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘢)」, 「𝘒𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴/𝘍𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 (𝘒𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘊𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘢)」, 「𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 (𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘊𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘢)」, and 「𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘐𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘦」 sections. 「𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴/𝘍𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 (𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘊𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘢)」 includes documentary and narrative films of the world. 「𝘒𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴/𝘍𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 (𝘒𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘊𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘢)」 discovers the talented new filmmakers of Korea and works that present a new vision of Korean Cinema. 「𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 (𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘊𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘢)」 introduces queer cinema centered on its ‘form,’ seeking the origin of queerness and its power. 「𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘐𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘦」 presents the contemporary issues of our society around queer communities.
To provide dynamic experiences, audiences can enjoy various events like opening/closing ceremony, Guest Visit (Filmmaker conversation), Q-Talk (Panel discussion), and Academy during the film festival.

KQFF CHOICE is the only award of KQFF, determined by KQFF programmers. The prize is awarded to the film that spotlights the agenda of contemporary queer cinema, including aesthetic achievement, innovative storytelling, and audience’s interest; one of each International/Korean section will be selected. The medal will be given, and the film chosen for KQFF CHOICE will be prioritized when recommending the film to any Korean/International film festival connected to KQFF. The awardee will be announced at the closing ceremony.
