Kilifi Creek Festival is an artist-led, community-rooted celebration of creativity, storytelling, and shared cultural heritage. Over seven days, it brings together established filmmakers, emerging voices, interdisciplinary artists, and local communities through film screenings, industry exchanges, and complementary cultural activities along the creek.

Kilifi Creek Festival – Submission Rules & Terms
1. Eligibility

Submissions are open to filmmakers from all countries.

Films must have been completed on or after 2023.

All genres are accepted: fiction, documentary, experimental, animation, and hybrid works.

Films can be short, feature-length, or series episodes, as long as they fit within the festival’s programming focus.

Films must not infringe on any copyright, trademark, or third-party rights.

2. Submission Platform

All submissions must be made via FilmFreeway only.

The person submitting the film must have the legal right to do so.

The festival is not responsible for incomplete, incorrect, or late submissions.

3. Fees

Submission fees (if any) are non-refundable.

Fee waivers are granted only at the discretion of the festival team.

Submission fees do not guarantee selection.

4. Language & Subtitles

Films not in English or Swahili must be submitted with English subtitles.

Subtitles must be embedded in the screener or provided as a selectable subtitle track.

5. Selection Process

All films are reviewed by the Kilifi Creek Festival programming team.

The festival’s decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Selected filmmakers will be notified via FilmFreeway and/or email.

The festival reserves the right to decide the screening section, date, and time.

6. Exhibition Format

If selected, filmmakers must provide a high-quality screening file in the format requested by the festival.

Failure to provide a proper screening copy by the deadline may result in withdrawal from the program.

7. Rights & Permissions

By submitting, you confirm that you own or control all rights to the film, including music, images, and performances.

You grant Kilifi Creek Festival the right to:

Screen the film during the festival dates.

Use excerpts (up to 2 minutes), stills, and trailers for promotional purposes (website, social media, press, and festival marketing).

You retain full ownership of your film.

8. Promotion & Marketing

Selected films may be included in the festival program, website, and press materials.

The festival may use stills, posters, and clips for non-commercial promotional purposes only.

9. Responsibility & Liability

The festival will take reasonable care in handling screening files but is not responsible for loss or damage.

The submitter agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Kilifi Creek Festival from any claims related to copyright, permissions, or legal disputes arising from the film.

10. Withdrawal

Films cannot be withdrawn after official selection without prior written agreement from the festival.

If you must withdraw, you must notify the festival team immediately.

11. Acceptance of Terms

By submitting to Kilifi Creek Festival via FilmFreeway, you agree to all the rules and terms listed above.
