A short film festival for children, organized by children.
About Kids for Films
Kids for Films (Kvikmyndahátíð barnanna) is a short film festival for children, organized by children. An enthusiastic group of kids from the municipality of Árborg in South Iceland takes part in planning the festival, selecting the films for the program, designing the logo and promotional materials, and creating the festival awards. The children also vote for and award the best film, with plans to introduce additional award categories proposed by the youth committee.
The entire process is supported by industry professionals with the goal of introducing young audiences to the world of short films, inspiring children's interest in filmmaking, and developing a deeper appreciation for cinema. Through a diverse range of short films from all corners of the world, the festival hopes to spark curiosity and bring new perspectives to both children and their families.
Our goal is to establish Kids for Films as an annual event that encourages producers, screenwriters, and directors to create more diverse and high-quality films made for young audiences.
The festival will take place on October 10-11 and feature a 1–2 day program at Bíóhúsið Selfoss, following the multicultural festival in Árborg. In addition, elementary schools in Árborg will be offered special screenings during school hours in the days leading up to the festival, giving interested students the opportunity to visit the cinema and experience a curated selection of films from the festival program.
Admission to the festival is completely free for children, their families, and all film enthusiasts.
Kids for Films welcomes short films from around the world, with a runtime between 2 and 40 minutes, created for young audiences.
Important Note for Submitters:
No screening fee.
In the lead-up to the festival, a group of young participants will design and create the festival awards. The children themselves will choose the award categories once the selected films are announced. During the festival, children and young people aged 18 and under will vote for their favourite films and decide the winners. The awards will then be sent to the winning filmmakers by mail.
