My love of film began at an early age when my dad used to take me to a rundown movie theater in my birth country El Salvador. Although we lived in the middle of a civil war, watching Mexican golden era black-and-white films was an escape for us.
Born in El Salvador, Central America, Junior E. Ruiz, or Eddie as he is better known, migrated with his family to the US at 10 years old to escape the horrors of war in his native country. The family settled in Santa Ana, CA where he has lived most of his life. Here, he began his storytelling career by writing poems and short stories. These would later become the basis of his screenplays. He started as a cameraman and editor for the Imagen Award-winning music channel LATV. He was also the Director of Photography and Editor of commercials for Mar Production. He then moved to Direct and Produce on-air promos for the music channel MUN2. Ruiz has also worked on several projects including La Tierra del Dolor (Director of Photography/Editor), Maquillaje (Producer/Director of Photography/Editor), Unforgiving Dream (Original Story by/Director of Photography/Editor), and Golondrina (Writer/Editor/Additional Photography). These films have been officially selected at numerous national and international film festivals. J. E. Ruiz, as he is credited, is obtaining his Bachelor's Degree with a focus on writing and directing film from the LA Film School in 2024. He is also writing a graphics novel portraying his life as a kid in a wartorn country, developing a series, writing his third feature screenplay, and is currently in post-production for his thesis short film "Lt.
