We are thrilled to announce the Seventh year of the Jim Thorpe Independent Film Festival (JTIFF) happening April 18-21, 2024 at the beautiful Mauch Chunk Opera House in historic Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. Our first six years were such a rousing success that we are expecting to double the excitement and turnout for our 7th sensational year.

The Jim Thorpe Independent Film Festival channels the rebellious spirit of the infamous Molly Maguires, welcoming the boldest, most defiant filmmakers to present their work, shatter convention and incite spirited debate. Our credo is “Eyes and Minds Wide Open” and we mean it!

We welcome features and shorts of every genre and budget - from gritty underground and experimental films to traditional narratives and documentaries.

At Midnight on Saturday, we'll be continuing our very popular GRINDHOUSE program. So send us your wildest, most over-the-top films that not only push the envelope, but rip it to shreds! *NO ONE UNDER 18 will be admitted to the GRINDHOUSE screenings.

We're also very pleased to continue our STUDENT FILM PROGRAM and as always, we'll be offering deep discounts for young filmmakers with proof of current enrollment.

And note that we continue to add even more LIVE MUSIC performances throughout our 4-day event through our collaboration with Philadelphia's cutting-edge music collective, GREAT CIRCLES!

So submit your film now and we hope to see you at the Mauch Chunk Opera House in April!

Jim Thorpe is a charming town with unique views everywhere you look. The festival staff are absolutely delightful and the theater centered in the heart of Jim Thorpe is gorgeous. I highly recommend submitting your film to the festival and enjoying the town, people, and films.

  • I mean ... where does one start? Let's begin with this: even if it weren't for JTIFF (and we'll return to this shortly), I would recommend visiting Jim Thorpe. 200+ year old town straight out of a movie -- beautifully preserved architecture and dozens of independently owned novelty shops and restaurants with amicable owners! Now, for the Jim Thorpe Independent Film Festival, I'll start by saying CONGRATULATIONS to Todd Morris and the rest of the team who put together the 7th edition of the festival. It, was, awesome! From the carefully curated programs of short films, to the stunning features (Ghostlight!) to the venue, The Mauch Chunk Opera House, to the get-together at the nearby ballroom, everything was well organized and well-attended. I can only hope to place another film in the festival so that I might have an excuse to return. But then again, you don't need one! Well worth the 7h drive.

  • Had an absolute blast at this festival, after avoiding festivals for years this was my first one I had gone to since I was a teenager, so I was unsure of what to expect. The festival founders and organizers were always super approachable and friendly, and the town of Jim Thorpe is gorgeous.

The Jim Thorpe Independent Film Festival exceeded every expectation, and we can't imagine a better place for the World Premiere of our film. The 9 hour road trip was completely worth it, and we look forward to returning again with or without a film in the fest.

The town of Jim Thorpe is completely charming, welcoming, and actually feels like a movie set. Nestled in the Pocono Mountains is this place that gets called little Switzerland for a good reason. The shops, restaurants, trails, train station, river, and historical buildings make Jim Thorpe a great destination for a vacation. We wish we could've spent some extra days exploring the area, and fully immersing ourselves with everything it has to offer.

Great festivals start with great people, and Todd & Jocelyn have created something special, and they've surrounded themselves with others who are passionate about film & growing a festival that will have great longevity. The fantastic communication leading up to the fest set the tone for our trip, and upon arriving we were welcomed like family at the Filmmakers Gala. The filmmakers, fest-goers, and organizers were all very engaging, and we found ourselves enjoying every minute of our stay.

The film selections are solid, and really add to the overall vision & brand of what JTIFF has built over 7 years. It's smart programming for an audience who truly appreciates independent films, and who are open-minded to original writing & expression. We've heard great things about this festival, and everything other filmmakers told us about JTIFF is 100% true.

If all that wasn't enough, screening our film in the 150 year old Mauch Chunk Opera House added to the overall experience. It feels like you're sitting in a piece of history, and becoming part of the legacy that will continue on for many more years. Standing on the stage during Q&A, and looking out at the audience on the main floor & balcony is like stepping back in time. It truly felt magical! The other great thing about having a one-venue festival is that you can see every film, and the audience & attending filmmakers don't miss a thing. That's so very refreshing!

For those considering where to submit your film, the Jim Thorpe Independent Film Festival in Jim Thorpe, PA should be on your list. And if your film gets accepted - GO!! You must go and enjoy the entire experience. You won't regret it.
