WE ARE YOUR BRIDGE BETWEEN ARIZONA AND JAPAN

Japanese Film Festival Arizona brings the best of a broad selection of Japanese cinema to Arizona in order to draw greater recognition of filmmakers, and to strengthen the ties between Arizona and Japan. In Partnership with Arizona State University the Sidney Poitier New American Film School, we aim to support and deepen the understanding of our cultures through the love and joy of Japanese movies.

The 2026 Japanese Film Festival Arizona will have screening dates September 18th-19th 2026 at The Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center Arizona State University. For more info please visit https://jffarizona.org. Submissions are Open for shorts and feature narratives and documentaries, as well animated films. Have your film screened in the heart of the desert Japanese Film Festival Arizona.

Submitting your film does not guarantee festival acceptance or screening. Acceptance into the festival does not guarantee award or prize. Japanese Film Festival Arizona reserves the right to change our programming and event parties without notice.

All films that participate in the Festival will have a unique chance to showcase their Japanese films in Arizona, through the exposure and media attention we will create at this festival.

(Film Submission Details)

The submission starts from Monday, January 5th, 2026.

Deadline (MST) 
Normal submission deadline – Thursday, April 30th, 2026.

Submission Categories 


- Short Film – running time from 5 to 20 min. 

- Feature Film – running time from 61 to 120 min.

Submission Requirements 
- The JFFA 2026 selected films from the public submission will be held in-person (unless otherwise announced) in Mesa, AZ, from September 18th (FRI) to 19th (SAT), including the opening ceremony and closing ceremony.

- WE DO NOT ACCEPT AI GENERATED FILMS INCLUDING AI GENERATED SCRIPTS AND OR ANIMATIONS MADE WITH AI OF ANY KIND.

- The Japanese Film Festival Arizona 2026 is open to films that have been made after 2021.

- It is the submitter's responsibility to ensure that all rights associated with the images and music used in the film, as well as the film itself, have been cleared.

- Selected films are required to have English. (* Recommended English subtitles with all the dialogue, including English) 
*JFFA can provide information on subtitling services. Please contact us if needed.

- It is acceptable for the film to have been previously screened or released.

- Films that are submitted are required to be related to Japan (shooting locations, concept, culture, tradition, etc.), or the leading actors (or multiple actors in supporting roles) must be Japanese or with Japanese ancestry and heritage.

-Filmmakers (directors, writers, and/or producers) can be any background.

Other Requirements:

Permission for promotional use: Your submission indicates your acceptance of the use of your film’s image captures, excerpts, or trailers for JFFA promotional materials, including websites, social media, brochures, and flyers.

Important Notice:

By submitting your film for consideration to JFFA, you acknowledge that you have read and accepted all submission requirements. In the case of falsehood, negligence, or serious errors, your film will be excluded and/or disqualified, and you may be subject to compensate for any expenses borne by the festival committee.

Film Acceptance: 


When a film is selected to be in the official selection and shown at JFFA, the submitter will receive a notification via e-mail, with the contact provided in the submission. If there will be no reply within a week, the festival holds a right to cancel the official selection status and screening of the film. Accepted films can expect a response from JFFA by mid-late June, 2026 (MST). 
*Please do not contact JFFA; We will contact you directly. JFFA will not answer questions regarding submission screening updates, reasons for a film being accepted or not accepted, reasons for a film being awarded or not awarded, and the like.

1. 2026年度のアリゾナ日本映画祭は2021年以降に制作された作品を対象とします。
2. 応募者は、映画で使用される画像、音楽、そして映画自体に関する全ての権利処理が完了されていることを確認する責任があります。
3. 選考作品には英語以外のセリフがある場合は英語字幕が必須です。
4. 上映作品は過去に上映・公開された作品でも構いません。
5. 作品は日本に関連する内容(撮影場所、コンセプト、文化、伝統など)であるか、主演俳優が日本人または日系人である必要があります。製作者(監督、脚本家、プロデューサー)の国籍は問いません。
6. AI を使用した作品(AIの書いた脚本、AIの制作したアニメショーンや俳優など)は受け付けておりません。

その他の要件:
プロモーション使用の許可:ご応募頂いた作品は、JFFAのプロモーション資料(ホームページ、SNS, フライヤー、チラシ、プログラム)に作品の画像、抜粋または予告編を掲載することを承諾したものとみなされます。
重要なお知らせ:
JFFAへの応募をもって応募者は応募要項を全てお読みになり、同意したものをみなされます。虚偽、過失、また誤りがあった場合は審査対象外となり失格となる場合があります。映画祭委員会が負担した費用を負担していただく場合もあります。
作品の採用:
作品が最終選択に選出されJFFAで上映される場合、応募者には応募にご提供していただいた連絡先にEメールで6月中下旬頃までに通知が届きます。一週間以内に確認のお返事が,ない場合は、正式出品及び上映はキャンセルになることをご了承ください。
応募手数料は、いかなる状況においても返金されません。
