Jake Thomas is a writer who celebrates oddballs and underdogs in his work for TV and film. Raised in Ohio on a steady diet of the Marx Brothers and Steven Spielberg, he got his first showbiz job under legendary TV producer Garry Marshall, who encouraged Jake to pursue writing.
Jake’s most recent comedy pilot, “South of Normal,” is a finalist in the ScriptMatix Pilot Season, the Sedona International Film Festival, and the Cinequest Screenplay Competition. His previous work includes the historical pilot “American Way,” inspired by his love of comic books. It won accolades at SeriesFest and Cinequest and made the Coverfly Red List. He also wrote for the award-winning comedy series “Adopted,” featuring Ashley Argota Torres (“All American,” “Winning Time”) and Erika Christensen (“Parenthood”).
Along with his narrative projects, he has written for commercial campaigns with the Harmon Brothers advertising company and trained with the Upright Citizens Brigade. He is a recurring guest on “The Con Guy” and “Binge Movies” podcasts, where he mines his love of movies and geeky fandom for laughs while discussing topical industry news.
He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Erin.
