Jake Thomas is a writer whose talents have been recognized at film festivals worldwide. He served as the executive producer of the pilot CHASERS, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. His award-winning scripts include the gender body-swap comedy THE EX CHANGE, the action crime comedy DICK SNATCH, and the historical comic book pilot AMERICAN WAY. Additionally, his fantasy feature, SHEDDING, received a nomination for the Independent Visions Award for Best Film at the 2020 Sarasota Film Festival and was distributed by Freestyle Digital Media. Aside from his projects, Jake works as a script analyst for The Black List, helping both new and experienced writers refine their original screenplays and pilots. He has also traveled with the sketch comedy troupes Yellow Light Runners and Spats & Cane, as well as trained with the Upright Citizens Brigade. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Erin.
SHEDDING centers on a house cat who gets to explore the outside world through the eyes of a human, and who helps a grieving family find peace. I made this film because I wanted to explore emotional longing. All creatures have appetites. We hunger for something. It may be as deep as wishing to see a missed loved one, or as simple as going outdoors, wishing to feel the sun on your face and the wind in your hair. The characters in SHEDDING all cope differently with their longing, but the shared experience bonds them together, despite such fantastic disparities.
Additionally, the film explores the positive effects that pets have on humans. They bring no agendas or distractions to relationships. Just by bringing their presence and undivided attention, the human soul is lifted.
Thank you for your consideration, and enjoy the show!
