Infinite Bodies is an international festival dedicated to the narration and exploration of the contemporary body through the medium of film. It is organized by the Associazione culturale Augenblick. The festival will take place in Genoa on September 21 and 22, 2024, at Cinema Nickelodeon and other public spaces in the city.
The films selected for Infinite Bodies will be presented to a Jury, composed of filmmakers, performers, audiovisual artists, writers, film critics and media professionals. The jury will award a prize for the Best Film (500 €), a mention for the Best Director (200 €) and a mention for the Best Concept (150 €) during the screening night, after the projection. Other special mentions may also be awarded.
The aim of this call is to select meaningful short films to be screened during the first edition of Infinite Bodies. Infinite Bodies is curated by Augenblick Associazione culturale and focuses on investigating and narrating the status of the contemporary body through the medium of film. The idea of the body, today open to a very broad transdisciplinary debate, also finds a multifaceted declination in cinema: the body on the screen is a prism through which to reflect on issues of identity, nature, human and interspecies relations, social and political relations, up to the accelerated scenarios of convergence with technology and the inorganic. The body is, after all, also an active subject of artistic research, contributing to the evolution of language and form, even in cinema. Infinite Bodies promotes short films that develop a body-oriented narrative, experimentation, and research into new technologies, without the constraints of genre or format.
The selected films will be screened in Genoa at CineClub Nickelodeon.
Infinite Bodies accepts the submission of short films under 20 min. (opening titles and final credits included), produced worldwide after the 1st of January 2022.
Films could be submitted with a fee of 10 € via the platform FilmFreeway, no later than 23.59 (11.59 PM) of the 1st of September 2024, Central European Time. Please provide a link to the film and the password, if requested. Films with dialogues that are not in Italian or English must have English or Italian subtitles.
The same artist (as a single director of the film, or collective) can submit no more than two works.
The submission of a film implies that the artist is in full possession of the rights to screen it (these rights concern concept, choreography, script, music, images and any other form of authorship). Organizers and curators are not responsible for false or incorrect information.
By accepting the rules of the open call, selected artists authorize:
to be included in Augenblick Associazione culturale archives;
a single screening of their film in Genoa, during Infinite Bodies (21-22 September 2024);
that an extract of their work (up to a maximum of 30 seconds) may be used by Associazione culturale Augenblick with the aim of promoting Infinite Bodies, in any context and language, by traditional and new media platforms, prior to and following the closing night of the festival. Please note that the video or photographic materials provided will be subject to current regulations on data processing and privacy.
All the participants will receive a submission confirmation. Otherwise, or for any other technical problem you can write to infinitebodiesfestival@gmail.com .
