The Ikaria Short Film Festival was "born" in 2022, as an idea to highlight the rich cultural wealth of Ikaria, but also as a cultural influx of artistic ideas, themes and spectacles created in Greece by independent small productions. A content that is not found in the mainstream means of production and cannot be easily reached by a resident of the island. The aim was to create a platform for artistic expression of young directors that would be framed by additional artistic actions from other fields of contemporary art and culture.
The Festival takes place annually at the end of August in Ikaria and lasts three days. The first day includes screenings of documentaries, the second day screenings of short films and the third and last day a tribute to creators of Ikarian origin and their work (direction, production, acting as well as other artistic forms and expressions). It is an honorary screening of a feature film related to the honoree. The screenings take place in the summer cinema of Agios Kirikos, while at the same time various artistic activities are held in the wider area of Ikaria, as well as free seminars for the island's residents.
