Horizon Short Film Festival aims to encourage younger generations and young artists in Malaysia to speak out on our country's current political climate through arts and storytelling, as the next general election nears.
5 films will be selected for screenings and will also be further shortlisted for awards in the following categories:
(Each award winner will receive a trophy and a cash prize)
- Golden Film Award
- Silver Film Award

FESTIVAL THEME
The theme for the latest call for submissions to Horizon Short Film Festival is “Climate”
You are invited to address the theme with the following point as inspiration:
- The political/social climate of the country today, or topics and subjects related to the term “Climate” in general
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Films that resonate with our theme
- Films that touch on the topic of “current political climate”
SUBMISSIONS CONDITIONS
- Open to all Malaysians
- At least ONE of the Director, Producer or Writer must be under the age of 35.
- The submission should be done by the person who’s 35 years old or below.
- If your film is selected, we will contact you via email or phone by the end of March 2023.
- All films must have English OR Bahasa Malaysia subtitles.
- Films completed after Jan 2018 are eligible for submission.
- Films under 10 minutes are eligible for submission.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
- In order to submit a film, you must own the rights or have permission from the owner.
- HORIZON SHORT FILM FESTIVAL will not be responsible for damaged copies.
- Our judges are free to make their own choices and no answers will be given about not selected films.
- HSFF can consider any film to be disqualified if the festival considers the content inappropriate. If you have any question regarding this decision, you might contact us at our email address thehorizonsff@gmail.com
- The applicants (submitters) must accept HSFF rules and terms.
- Submitting your film, you authorize HSFF to use, distribute and share the film poster, trailer, synopsis and film stills in our social media.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- All films must be under 10 minutes.
- Films must have been completed after 1 January 2018.
- Films completed before 1 January 2018 are NOT eligible.
- All entries must be submitted with English OR Bahasa Malaysia subtitles.
- Video resolution must be 720p, 1080p or above.

DEADLINES
- Entries must be submitted online between 31 August 2022 to 1 March 2023.
JUDGING & SELECTION
- Films are selected for festival presentation by the Jury Panel from the HSFF. If a film is selected, the Festival office will contact the entrant by phone or email.
- All entrants will be notified on or before the end of March 2023. The Festival does not provide feedback or screening notes to entries that are not selected.
- After a film has been selected and the filmmaker is notified, the film will be listed on the festival website, under official selections.
- Films cannot be withdrawn from the festival program after being selected.
- Each participant is responsible for the content of his/her work and for any possible copyright problems. The participants owns all right concerning the usage of his/her work according to the regulations. The Festival Committee has no responsibility to third parties. The Festival Committee has the right to reject films, if the content or technical quality does not correspond to the Festival conditions.
