Located at the northernmost tip of Japan, Hokkaido boasts a unique natural environment and culture. Thanks to its topography, location, ocean currents, and seasonal winds, the region experiences distinct seasons and features diverse local characteristics.
Hokkaido has long served as Japan’s food production hub.
The bounties of nature born here have been transformed into delicious cuisine, giving rise to a generation of top-class chefs.
Sapporo, the region’s central hub, holds the potential to become a world-class culinary city.
Through the fusion of Hokkaido’s rich food culture and cinematic expression—“FOOD × MOVIE”—this film festival aims to serve as a platform connecting everyone involved in Hokkaido’s food and tourism sectors—including participants, film professionals, chefs, and producers—to showcase Hokkaido’s appeal to the world and promote regional development through food and tourism.
We look forward to receiving a diverse range of entries expressing the appeal of food from creators around the world who support the vision of the “HOKKAIDO FOOVIE FESTIVAL.”
The HOKKAIDO FOOVIE FESTIVAL 2026 is launching a new competition section and is now accepting submissions of video works centered on the theme of food.
We will select outstanding works from submissions received from around the world, screen them as part of the festival’s official program, “FOOVIE SELECTION,” and judge them to determine the winner of the FOOVIE AWARD (Grand Prix).
We are seeking films in which food plays a significant role.
Entries are eligible not only if food is the central theme but also if it is portrayed in a memorable way within the narrative. We welcome works depicting cuisine, ingredients, food culture, agriculture and fishing practices, chefs, restaurants, and the food industry. We also plan to accept vertical short videos in the future.
