Grizzdance Film Festival is thrilled to announce its call for submissions for Grizzdance 2021!
Our mission is to encourage and celebrate young filmmakers from around the globe. For our upcoming festival, we are planning both an in-person event for student filmmakers in the Great Lakes region and continuing our online screening format to highlight the works of emergent international filmmakers. If you are a high school student, college student, or recent alumni we eagerly await your film submissions. With the pandemic continues to stifle film production, we are excited to see just how students have used this time to become even more imaginative in their art. Our call is open to any and all short films (under 20 minutes) you have been making (narratives, documentaries, even a YouTube or TikTok video — be inventive!)
We pride ourselves on being as accessible as possible. To do just that, we always maintain that our submission price remains free!

Grizzdance Film Festival is programmed by a team of Oakland University students with festival and film expertise, working alongside the faculty of the university's film program. The festival experience is designed to facilitate networking and professional development opportunities for emergent filmmakers in the metro Detroit area. We strive to bring together student filmmakers and those alike from around the world, showcasing their skills and abilities in the industry.
Our 2021 festival goals include:
- Providing a showcase for young filmmakers to screen their work in a thoughtfully curated environment with maximum opportunity for feedback from audiences.
- Offering professional development opportunities for emergent filmmakers to expand their artistic networks, interact with fellow filmmakers, and discuss their work with OU Film faculty.
- Recognizing outstanding work at the high school and university level through the awarding of juried prizes
