Grice Peters (aka GRICE) is an art rock musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. His drive towards emotive song craft and his innovative approach and passion for manipulating both analogue and digital sounds have awarded him with acclaim in progressive art rock circles resulting in successful collaborations with instrumental and production luminaries including Richard Barbieri (Japan, Porcupine Tree), Steve Jansen (Japan, Exit North), Hossam Ramzy (Peter Gabriel, Led Zeppelin), saxophonist Raphael Ravenscroft (Pink Floyd/Final Cut, Baker Street), violinist Steve Bingham (No-Man, Judy Dyble) and pioneering Pedal Steel Guitarist B J Cole (Elton John, Marc Bolan, Scott Walker).
Born in Wimbledon, he studied percussion at the Trinity School of John Whitgift and History of Art and Sociology at Croydon Art College in London. His passion for music started from an early age as a chorister in the Trinity Choir and his first public performance was at the age of 10 supporting Dame Vera Lynn at the Royal Albert Hall. He continued his musical journey in the South West and since 2012 he has released 6 studio albums as an independent solo artist on his record label hungersleep records.
In 2000 he founded artist development organisation Sound Gallery with support from the Elmgrant Trust, Lord Young of Dartington and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He is the founder of social enterprise Sound Gallery CIC (est. 2007) and Creative Director of Sound Gallery Studios (est. 2008) in Exeter.
GRICE has an impressive catalogue of music used in documentaries and films including BBC 2 & BBC Worldwide (William and Kate: A Royal Engagement), Black Diamond Films (Free Spirit), MTV, Sky and MICA by Ismael Ferroukhi (IFI French Film Festival 2021). He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA).
In addition to his solo work, he has contributed to Richard Barbieri’s 3rd album Planets and Persona and he is a co-writer on 'Beyond the Illusion' album by Italian musician Stefano Panunzi.
He has also worked closely as an engineer and producer with the late saxophonist Raphael Ravenscroft (Pink Floyd, Vangelis/Blade Runner, Duffy, Baker Street) on a number of projects including ‘Santiago’ and the single ‘Forgiveness’ (Raphael’s tribute to singer Gerry Rafferty) and has produced the debut album Icarus Girl by folk singer-songwriter Siobhan McCrudden.
He has supported Richard Barbieri on his Planet and Persona tour at Vibraphonic Festival, Seventh Wave Festival and Hoxton Hall (London). He has also shared the stage with Steve Hogarth (Marillion) at the IB Expo (Sweden) where he made an impromptu appearance and sang on the premier performance of Naked (from the album Not The Weapon but the Hand) accompanied by Richard Barbieri, David Torn & Julie Slick.
