The Green Mountain Film Festival is presented by Focus on Film, a 35-year-old, central Vermont organization whose purpose is to provide public film showings of cultural, social, and historic interest, to sponsor discussions of such films, and to provide an opportunity for independent filmmakers to exhibit their works. Showings may be in collaboration with schools, other educational institutions, and other film and theater societies (1984 Articles of Association).
The festival enters its 23rd year with continued dedication to bringing the best films from around the world to central Vermont. With expanded shorts programming, prolific guests, and our legacy as a destination for cinephiles, we look forward to celebrating with you!
Audience Award: goes to the film with the best rating, voted by our audience.
While the festival always considers films that have been screened at other film festivals or have been picked up for distribution, the festival refrains from programming films that have had DVD sales or online streaming prior to the completion of the 2019 Green Mountain Film Festival.
Works in progress are not considered. Please submit films in their final, complete state.
All entries must be submitted as an online screener (Vimeo link accepted) through Filmfreeway.com or on DVD (NTSC, Region 0 and 1). No Blu-Ray prescreeners please.
All entries must either be in the English language or be subtitled in the English language.
ONLY ENTER FILMS IN ONE CATEGORY. We will disqualify films if they are submitted in multiple categories, or if entered into the wrong category.
All film submissions must be uploaded or postmarked by the category deadlines as published here.
DVD submissions will not be returned.
Please package any DVDs accordingly. You will be notified if the screener arrives damaged or fails to play. The Green Mountain Film Festival/Focus on Film does not assume liability for damage to entries during shipping due to mishandling or poor packaging.
Please ship DVD screeners and exhibition prints (if chosen) to:
Green Mountain Film Festival
P.O. Box 901
Montpelier, VT 05601-0901
Film presentations are scheduled at the discretion of the Green Mountain Film Festival and are subject to change. If you would like your film back after its festival screening, please send a self-addressed stamped envelope with your exhibition print.
Regardless of original format, all films screen on DCP and Blu-Ray for festival presentation. 35-mm or DVD formats are considered on a case-by-case basis.
All filmmakers will be notified on or around February 1, 2020. This is subject to change; please be patient. Thank you!
