Aloha Makamaka,

It will be the 20th anniversary of the Free Spirit Film Festival this year. How time flies! We keep going for the love of films, and care for the fraternity.

The Free Spirit Film Festival is the smallest film festival in the world. But our efforts and endeavours have never been small. It has been a labour of love, and fun all along, despite facing all kinds of obstacles.

Over the years we have had the honour of screening many great films from around the world. The trust shown to us encourages us to keep moving forward. We appreciate all the filmmakers and the rest for believing in us, and giving us the opportunity to reach where we are today.

We are looking forward to seeing some amazing films in our 20th edition. The submissions will be opened from the beginning of July to the end of August. Please check back with us. The online version will take place from 21 to 31 October. We are yet to decide the date and location for the theatre event.

Yours always,

Lobsang Wangyal
Festival Director

  • This might be the "smallest film festival in the world" but it's run by people with big hearts who strive to make it the best that they can, year after year. Hats off to Lobsang, the festival director, for his tireless efforts, and for being easy to communicate with. I wasn't able to attend (I live in Canada) but my Indian composer made the long trek north and was there to represent us. He was introduced to applause, given an opportunity to speak to the audience, and humbly accepted 4 awards on our behalf - including Best Picture and Best Music. The local press published an article, so what more could we ask for. All in all just a wonderful experience!
