Hosted in Groningen, demographically the youngest city in the Netherlands, Framed International Animation Film Festival takes place in the dynamic Forum Groningen, a modern, multifunctional cultural hub nestled on the north side of our humbly-sized country. Our mission is to spread the love for the animated medium, and to show audiences the potential and versatility of animators from all backgrounds and experiences, all spread out over several days of short-film compilations, feature film screenings, industry talks, events and more! From traditional 2D to experimental mixed media, from stop-motion to CGI, Framed invites artists to explore fresh narratives, push creative boundaries, and captivate audiences with innovative visual storytelling. Come celebrate the limitless possibilities of this beautiful medium with us!

If selected, your animated short film will compete in one of the following two competitive categories:

- Best International Short Film Competition
- Best International Student Short Film Competition

If not selected for one of the two competitions, your short might still be selected for the following two non-competitive categories:

- Just A Few Frames: your short will be paired with a feature film, and will screen before said feature film during Framed (limited to shorts with a shorter duration of maximum 4 minutes)
- Late Night Insanity Shorts: your short will screen in this late night programme

When selected for the Just A Few Frames or Late Night Insanity Shorts, you will still receive an "Official Selection" laurel.

- The film is no longer than 26 minutes and not shorter than 1 minute and has to incorporate animation in its visuals.
- The film has a completion date after September 2024, so from October 2024 onwards
- The film has clear-spoken English dialogues and/or has English subtitles
- Only completed entries with paid submission fees will be processed and considered for the Official Selection. Entry fees are not refundable.
- Framed reserves the right to use extracts from submissions in the Official Selection for festival publicity and marketing purposes.
- If your film is selected, you agree to provide any additional materials required for the screening or promotional purposes in a timely manner.
- All selected films will be reviewed by a jury of industry professionals. The decisions of the jury are final.
- For the film selection process a digital screener must be submitted via FilmFreeway.
- This screener must be hosted with either Vimeo or YouTube. We will not assess films submitted with other private video hosting formats.
- Successful submissions that are granted a screening must submit their films as a Digital Cinema Package (DCP) to be screened at the event.
