I had a great time at the Folkestone Documentary Festival in 2025 with my short film Headland. It is a really warm and welcoming festival, with engaged audiences and a genuine sense of care for filmmakers. Being nominated for Best Short Film and receiving a Special Mention from the Whickers Award was such a lovely surprise. Overall, it was a brilliant experience and a festival I would happily recommend to other filmmakers!

Folkestone is a very special festival. An amazing set of curated films in a beautiful cinema and location. What I loved most is that it seemed to have a real pull for local people to see an eclectic range of films in amongst the ‘industry’ crowd you get at most festivals. As a new filmmaker, I felt very welcomed and introduced to a lovely community

This is a wonderful festival that I would love to attend one day with another documentary. Its organizers are cultured, friendly, and efficient. I'm sure that over the years, it will become an increasingly recognized festival in the UK. They screen films in a beautiful venue, which attracts an engaged audience. They also pay exhibition fees—every filmmaker's dream. My short film The Broken Goddess was the only Latin American work in its fourth edition. I couldn’t attend, but some friends who live in London traveled there especially and sent me photos and reports of a packed screening. The entire process of the festival was clear and efficient. I’m a fan!
