First City Film Festival was my first festival experience, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was totally blown away by how welcoming everyone was and the great networking opportunities that were available. I was able to talk about my film before audiences and I met some amazing filmmakers that I have had the pleasure of collaborating with since.

Having participated in the 2020 festival, this review won't entirely reflect a normal year, but I want to give these people major credit anyway with their handling of everything.
Stay at home orders were made mere weeks before this festival was set to go on. First City did the right thing by initially postponing.
Where most festivals have spent this year ripping everyone off and taking half the selections they would have and walking away with all of the submission fees 2 days before canceling, First City displayed their professionalism by offering filmmakers the option of holding over to next year or participating in an awards ceremony for this year. As my film's release was already screwed up, I opted for the award ceremony. I appreciate everything this festival did to follow through.
I also appreciate that my film (an animated feature) was nominated for "Best Feature Film". Most festivals wouldn't even consider an animated film for that spot and to me that shows an enormous amount of character and respect for various mediums by the festival staff.
As a Kansas film studio, I feel as though First City is one of (if not THE) best festival for local filmmakers right now.
Thank you so much for the great experience. I really hope we can participate again in a more normal setting.

  • Due to the Covid-19 Virus the festival has been postponed. But I recommend Tisha and her staff for the preparation that was done for this festival and the response from some of the people that was going to attend and how they was so excited and couldn't wait for it. But due to the Covid-19 Virus the festival had to be postponed. So I give them 5 stars in every category. And now as we all wait for GOD to give us the victory over this Virus so we can begin to move forward in our life as before. We pray that all who are reading this that you and your families are safe and always GOD bless.
