Filmed by Bike is a Portland-based film festival celebrating bicycles and the stories that move us.

Each year, we present a curated lineup of bicycle-centric films at the historic Hollywood Theatre, featuring independent voices from around the world and highlighting the many ways bikes shape our lives, communities, and cultures.

Filmed by Bike brings filmmakers and audiences together to connect, spark conversation, and celebrate the creative and cultural impact of cycling.

We accept film submissions year-round from independent filmmakers worldwide. Hundreds of entries are reviewed annually, with exceptional films selected through a juried process led by passionate bike and film advocates.

With screenings that regularly sell out and films reaching audiences beyond Portland, Filmed by Bike is proud to be part of a global community driven by storytelling, movement, and life on two wheels.

Join us in highlighting the world's best bike movies!

  • A great bicycle-themed film event held at a gem of a Portland theater, it's been taken over by new organizers which led to a change of dates and a conflict for me, otherwise I would've loved to have supported in person. They put a lot of work in to communicate with filmmakers beforehand, and organize cool events like a group bike ride. Check 'em out--they operate a bike film tour as well!

  • It's a great festival! They really go above and beyond to put together a lot of great events and make it fun for the filmmakers.

  • My short film, Switching Lanes played at the 2023 festival. While I wasn't able to attend in person (due to now living in Australia), communication with the festival organizers was friendly and efficient throughout with Melina even sending me a thanks and a photo of my film playing on screen after the event. Would definitely submit again.

Our Short Doco, "Grandma's Bike" (Mechanic is not a Gendered Word) Premiered at the 19th Annual Filmed By Bike Film Festival. The FBFF team did an amazing job to run a film festival remotely and stream the whole program. We were thrilled to be given an honourable mention in the Audience Favourite category. The Films Manager, Melina Coumas was outstanding in her role, and was endlessly supportive in the lead up to the festival. Highly recommended to watch and submit.

I participated in the Filmed by Bike Film Festival last year. The films manager, Melina Coumas, was outstanding. The communication was excellent. I was also super impressed with the films in the program. There was such diversity and imagination. Thanks for selecting my short film.
