Film Underground is a short film and animation festival held in unique underground venues in London and Bristol. Dedicated to showcasing emerging filmmakers and local artists, offering a platform to share their creative visions with a diverse audience. The festival highlights fresh talent, unconventional storytelling, and artistic expression with a focus on community and bringing people together.

Underground offers an immersive experience where art and culture collide. It’s a place to discover new voices and support the next generation of filmmakers.

Short films often struggle for attention in traditional festivals, but Underground changes that by offering greater visibility and opportunities for filmmakers. Here, filmmakers can connect with a wider audience, free from corporate interference and budget.

Submit to Underground and be part of a festival that values your work and connects you to viewers who want to see it.

This festival is organised by ANiMiNSPO and Day Job Films.

We welcome any short film, in any genre - fiction, documentary, animation, experimental, or hybrid - as long as the work feels honest and original.

For live action, films must be under 40 minutes, and for animation, under 20 minutes.

We encourage all selected filmmakers to attend the festival, though attendance is not mandatory. For international filmmakers, we’re happy to explore all available options to help make participation possible.

By submitting, you agree that your film may be screened in person and/or online as part of Film Underground’s events.

Filmmakers retain full rights to their work. All films are viewed in full by our programming team and considered on artistic merit, heart, and fit with the festival’s ethos.

Selected filmmakers will be notified by email and announced publicly across our channels.

Our curators’ decisions are final.

We may use short clips, stills, or your film’s poster for promotional purposes only (e.g. social media, press, trailers).
