This year’s Bura film festival explores the theme of silence. Silence, in itself, represents an empty sonic space for exploration and a retreat from the stimuli that shape everyday life. The silence of our sourroundings creates a state that allows the observer of audiovisual art to fully immerse themselves in its world. It brings with it a sense of calm, a space for tenderness, and suspension of emotions – it recognizes inner states and needs.
Yet today, we are also witnessing another type of silence – one that suppresses freedom of expression, that is imposed and harsh, used to silence ideas and creative work. This is the silence we want to resist, and give a voice to freedom instead.
Bura film festival is an open-air film festival held in the UNESCO-protected historic center of Bakar.
The program of its third edition focuses on short films, with selections curated by an award-winning director Sara Grgurić. The best films are awarded in three categories: Best Short Fiction Film, Best Short Animated Film, and Best Short Documentary Film. Festival awards are created by academic sculptor Edo Hrženjak.
Bura Film Festival fosters sustainability through its waste-free concept, as well as a strong connection with the local community through a carefully curated gastronomic offer featuring local producers.
