Film Con Hollywood is more than a festival — it is a movement. Born from the belief that the next great wave of cinema will come not from the studios, but from the streets, the bedrooms, and the laptops of a generation that refuses to wait for permission, Film Con Hollywood exists as a gathering place for young people and filmmakers from every corner of the world who are ready to connect, collaborate, and create on their own terms.

At its core, Film Con Hollywood is about community. Not the kind built on industry hierarchies or gatekeeping, but the kind forged between people at similar stages of their journey — writers still finding their voice, directors shooting on borrowed equipment, producers learning to stretch a budget further than it should go. These are the people Film Con Hollywood was built for. The event brings them together in one space, at one time, with one shared purpose: to make something that matters.

Knowledge is power, and the landscape of film and media has never been more democratised. Opportunity today favours the talented and the nimble — those who understand that the tools to tell extraordinary stories are already in their hands. Film Con Hollywood accelerates that understanding. Through a curated programme of workshops, panels, and masterclasses led by working industry professionals, attendees gain direct access to the expertise that once lived exclusively behind studio walls. Topics span the full spectrum of modern filmmaking — from the craft of visual storytelling and screenwriting structure, to the practical realities of distribution, content monetisation, brand partnerships, and building a sustainable creative career in an era of streaming, short-form content, and global digital platforms.

But Film Con Hollywood has never been content with simply filling seats in a conference room. The event is built around doing. Every edition places hands-on experience at its centre — collaborative projects where strangers become creative partners, live pitch sessions where ideas meet opportunity in real time, and demonstrations that bridge the gap between theory and practice. Attendees leave not just with knowledge, but with work produced, relationships formed, and a clearer sense of the filmmaker they are becoming.

The awards programme sits at the heart of the festival's celebration of craft. Across seven categories — including Best Short Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Original Screenplay, Best International Short, Best Music Score, and Honorable Mentions — Film Con Hollywood recognises the work of filmmakers who dared to finish what they started. These are not awards handed down by an inaccessible jury behind closed doors. They are recognition from a community that understands exactly what it cost to get the film made.

Now entering its sixth edition, Film Con Hollywood returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center — a venue chosen not for its glamour, but for its energy, its accessibility, and its capacity to hold a community that keeps growing. Five editions in, the proof is in the people who keep coming back: the filmmaker who made their first connection here and has since gone on to festival circuit success; the writer who pitched their screenplay in this room and found their collaborator; the first-time attendee who arrived alone and left as part of something.

Film Con Hollywood is not the biggest festival in Los Angeles. It is not trying to be. It is trying to be the most useful, the most honest, and the most human — a place where the next generation of filmmakers does not just dream about making their mark on cinema, but takes the first real steps toward doing exactly that.

Rules, Eligibility & Submission Terms
Film Con Hollywood — 6th Edition · 2026

SUBMISSION RULES
Film Con Hollywood welcomes submissions from filmmakers at every stage of their journey, from first-time directors to emerging professionals finding their footing in the industry. To ensure a fair and focused competition, all submissions must adhere to the following rules:

Short films submitted for competition must have a maximum runtime of 30 minutes, including titles and end credits. Films exceeding this limit will be deemed ineligible regardless of the strength of the work itself, so please review your final cut carefully before submitting.

Screenplay submissions for the Best Short Film Original Screenplay category must not exceed 14 pages in standard industry screenplay format. Page count includes title page, scene headings, action lines, and dialogue. Submissions exceeding this limit will not be considered.

Film Con Hollywood is a genre-agnostic festival. Drama, comedy, horror, documentary, animation, experimental, thriller, sci-fi, romance — all genres and hybrid forms are equally welcome. We are interested in the quality of the storytelling, not the category it falls into.

All foreign language films must be subtitled in English. Films submitted without English subtitles will be considered ineligible. Subtitles do not need to be burned into the print — closed caption or separate subtitle files are acceptable where the submission platform supports them.

ELIGIBILITY
Film Con Hollywood is committed to celebrating original, independently produced work. The following eligibility requirements apply to all submissions for the 2026 edition:
Entrants warrant that they have the full legal right to submit the work to Film Con Hollywood, that all statements made in this application are true, complete, and accurate, and that all necessary rights, licences, and clearances — including music rights, location releases, performer releases, and underlying rights to any adapted material — have been properly secured to permit the public screening of the work at the festival and in any festival-related promotional materials.

Due to the complexity of intellectual property law and the potential for copyright conflict, Film Con Hollywood is unable to consider fan fiction films or fan films based on existing copyrighted properties without express written permission from the primary copyright holder. Submissions of this nature made without documented permission will be disqualified. This applies to films based on existing characters, franchises, universes, or any work protected under copyright law.

Eligible works must have been completed on or after January 1, 2024. Films completed prior to this date are not eligible for the 2026 edition regardless of whether they have previously screened at other festivals.

Film Con Hollywood reserves the right to determine the final eligibility of any work submitted, and to disqualify any submission found to be in breach of these terms at any stage of the selection process, including after notification of selection.

Submissions are open to filmmakers of all nationalities, backgrounds, and levels of experience. There is no residency requirement for the international short film category. USA Short Film category submissions are restricted to films made by American citizens or permanent residents.

EXHIBITION AGREEMENT & PRINT TRAFFIC
Submission to Film Con Hollywood constitutes a binding agreement with all festival rules, terms, and conditions as set out on this page and on the FilmFreeway submission platform.

By submitting your work, you grant Film Con Hollywood a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to screen the work publicly during the festival programme if selected, and to use stills, clips of up to 60 seconds in duration, title information, and filmmaker details for the purposes of festival promotion, press coverage, social media, and archival documentation. This licence does not constitute a transfer of ownership of any rights in the work.

Film Con Hollywood does not provide screening fees to submitted or selected films. Submission fees paid through the FilmFreeway platform are non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the selection process.

Filmmakers are responsible for delivering their film in a format compatible with the festival's screening requirements. Technical specifications and delivery instructions will be provided to selected filmmakers upon notification. Film Con Hollywood does not cover costs associated with print traffic, file delivery, or format conversion.

Selected filmmakers who are unable to attend the festival in person are encouraged to participate remotely where the programme schedule allows. Details of remote participation options will be communicated at the time of selection notification.

A NOTE FROM THE FESTIVAL DIRECTOR
Film Con Hollywood was built on the belief that every filmmaker deserves a room where their work is taken seriously and their voice is heard. These rules exist not to create barriers, but to ensure that every submission is evaluated on a level playing field and that every filmmaker who walks through our doors — physically or digitally — knows that what they made belongs entirely to them.

We look forward to seeing what the 2026 generation of filmmakers has made.
