The largest film festival in central Africa, the FICKIN' Film Festival is held annually in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Submissions have come from hundreds of nations.

Rules & Terms

Films must have been produced no earlier than 2023 to be eligible for FICKIN. Trophies are awarded to winners who attend the festival in person. Winners who can't attend will receive digital laurels.
Note that the DR-Congo is a Francophone country. We will consider any film with English subtitles, but preference in selection will be given to films in French or with French subtitles.

    I am grateful that my animated film Mes petits contes – Les larmes de la jardinière was selected and screened at the festival. The event itself is truly impressive, with a strong focus on live-action cinema and an inspiring atmosphere for filmmakers.
    However, I must note that the festival did not prove to be the most suitable platform for animated content. Although the rules advertised an award category for animation, no prize was ultimately granted. This absence was disappointing, as it diminished the visibility and recognition of animated works within the program.
    Overall, while the festival excels in celebrating live-action films, it would benefit from honoring its commitment to animation by ensuring that animated projects receive the same opportunities for acknowledgment and distinction.

    The experience at the Fickin' International Film Festival Kinshasa in 2023 was simply FANTASTIC! Our film "Africa, Cradle of Humankind and Modern Civilizations" won the award for Best Feature Documentary. The experience was wonderful. I highly recommend this festival to all cinema and cultural exchange enthusiasts.
