Bases Oficiales de la Convocatoria:
Festival Universitario de Animación (FUA) 2026
1. CONDICIONES GENERALES
El Festival Universitario de Animación (FUA) abre su convocatoria oficial e invita a los creadores a participar en esta primera edición. El FUA se realizará en modalidad presencial, en las instalaciones de la Universidad LCI Veritas, en San José, Costa Rica, del 11 al 14 de junio de 2026.
La primera edición del FUA abre la convocatoria para la presentación de obras de animación en cuatro categorías oficiales de competencia. Podrán participar personas físicas mayores de 18 años, de forma individual o colectiva, de cualquier nacionalidad, presentando cortometrajes de animación que cumplan con los lineamientos de participación y los requisitos técnicos de exhibición descritos en este Reglamento.
La participación en todas las categorías es gratuita.
2. CATEGORÍAS OFICIALES DE COMPETENCIA
Las cuatro categorías oficiales de competencia del FUA son las siguientes:
- Mejor Cortometraje Animado de Ficción Costarricense
- Mejor Cortometraje Animado de No Ficción Costarricense
- Mejor Cortometraje Animado de Ficción Internacional
- Mejor Cortometraje Animado de No Ficción Internacional
Además, todas las obras participantes en cualquiera de las categorías oficiales de competencia también participarán en la elección de dos premios especiales:
- Gran Premio del Jurado
- Gran Premio del Público
Los premios para las cuatro categorías oficiales de competencia, y el Gran Premio del Jurado, serán decididos por un jurado designado por el Festival.
El Gran Premio del Público se definirá por votación del público, mediante el mecanismo de votación definido por la organización para el Festival.
3. CRONOGRAMA Y PLAZOS
3.1 Periodo de postulación: La convocatoria permanecerá abierta desde la publicación de las presentes bases hasta el 15 de abril de 2026 a las 23:59 horas (hora de Costa Rica). No se aceptarán inscripciones ni materiales fuera de este plazo.
3.2 Proceso de selección: La comisión curatorial del Festival evaluará las obras recibidas entre el 16 de abril y el 3 de mayo de 2026. Durante este periodo, la organización podrá contactar a los postulantes para subsanar errores técnicos o de documentación.
3.3 Notificación de resultados: Los participantes cuyas obras sean seleccionadas serán notificados vía correo electrónico a partir del 8 de mayo de 2026. La lista oficial de seleccionados se publicará en el sitio web y redes sociales del Festival el día 12 de mayo de 2026.
3.4 Realización del Festival: El evento del FUA 2026 se llevará a cabo los días 11, 12, 13 y 14 de junio de 2026.
4. LINEAMIENTOS DE PARTICIPACIÓN
Pueden inscribirse cortometrajes animados realizados en el ámbito académico, es decir, pueden ser proyectos de graduación o tareas, siempre y cuando hayan sido realizados como parte de la formación en una Universidad, una escuela de animación, o un taller de animación (sea presencial o virtual); para lo que será requisito demostrar la naturaleza académica de la obra, tal y como se detalla en el artículo 4.5.
4.1 Fecha de realización: Solo se admitirán en competencia trabajos producidos desde enero del 2023 en adelante.
4.2 Duración y formato: Se admitirán obras con una duración máxima de 15 minutos, contabilizando desde el primer fotograma hasta el final de los créditos. No se establece un tiempo mínimo de duración para que la pieza sea considerada elegible.
4.3 Técnicas admitidas: El festival tiene un carácter inclusivo respecto a la ejecución técnica. Se aceptan cortometrajes realizados en 2D, 3D, stop motion, técnica mixta, rotoscopia, animación experimental y cualquier otro proceso animado.
4.4 Especificaciones de entrega: Los participantes deberán proveer un archivo de video en contenedor .MP4 o .MOV (Códec H.264 o Apple ProRes 422), en resolución mínima Full HD (1920x1080), junto con un póster oficial y tres fotogramas (stills) de la obra en alta resolución (300 dpi).
4.5 Acreditación del contexto académico: Al ser una categoría dirigida a estudiantes o procesos de formación, los postulantes deberán adjuntar uno (1) de los siguientes documentos para validar el origen de la obra:
Copia del carné estudiantil vigente o comprobante de matrícula de cualquiera de las personas responsables de la dirección o producción.
Carta de respaldo o correo electrónico institucional emitido por un docente, tutor o autoridad académica que certifique la naturaleza pedagógica del proyecto.
Evidencia digital (captura de pantalla) de plataformas educativas, aulas virtuales o programas de curso donde se identifique claramente el nombre del participante y el taller o asignatura vinculada.
4.6 Subsanación de errores: En caso de que la documentación presentada resulte ambigua o insuficiente, la organización del Festival se reserva el derecho de contactar al solicitante para requerir aclaraciones adicionales antes de proceder con la inscripción del cortometraje para su participación en el FUA.
5. INSCRIPCIÓN, PRESENTACIÓN Y SELECCIÓN DE LAS OBRAS
5.1 Canales de inscripción: Las personas interesadas en participar deberán registrar sus cortometrajes dentro de los plazos estipulados en el cronograma oficial, descrito en el Artículo 3. Para la inscripción de los cortometrajes, el FUA habilita un formulario disponible en la siguiente dirección: [ENLACE AL FORMULARIO]
5.2 Protocolo de envío de material para preselección: Al utilizar el formulario web, el remitente deberá proporcionar un acceso directo a la obra mediante WeTransfer, OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive o servidores privados. Es responsabilidad exclusiva de los participantes garantizar que los enlaces permanezcan activos durante el período de presentación. En caso de archivos con fecha de caducidad, el interesado deberá renovar el enlace proactivamente; de lo contrario, la obra quedará fuera de competencia.
5.3 Curaduría y selección: Todos los cortometrajes recibidos serán evaluadas por una comisión curatorial especializada, definida por la organización del Festival. El veredicto de esta comisión es final y no admite recursos de apelación.
5.4 Acervo histórico: Todo material enviado para el proceso de selección, independientemente de la evaluación y veredicto de la comisión curatorial, se integrará formalmente al archivo documental y de consulta del Festival.
5.5 Aceptación de bases y cesión de derechos: La presentación de un cortometraje mediante el formulario de inscripción conlleva la conformidad total con este reglamento. Por tanto, el participante, al enviar el formulario, ratifica ser el titular de los derechos patrimoniales de la pieza y otorga las siguientes facultades al Festival:
Exhibición temporal: Autorización para la comunicación pública, reproducción y exhibición gratuita de la obra, de acuerdo con los lineamientos estipulados en el Artículo 10 del presente reglamento, hasta la finalización de las actividades de promoción de la edición subsiguiente en 2027.
Archivo y memoria: Permiso para el almacenamiento y uso de la obra como parte de la memoria histórica del Festival.
Formalización adicional: Los seleccionados se comprometen a suscribir cualquier documento de autorización que la organización requiera para formalizar su participación en el Festival.
6. COSTO DE INSCRIPCIÓN
El FUA no establece cobros por concepto de inscripción en ninguna de sus categorías competitivas. De igual forma, el Festival no reconoce ni aplica tasas de proyección ni realiza pagos por las obras que resulten seleccionadas. Cualquier gasto externo en el que incurran los participantes, relacionado con la proyección de su obra, deberá ser asumido íntegramente por los participantes.
7. DERECHOS DE AUTOR Y PROPIEDAD INTELECTUAL
7.1 Titularidad y autorizaciones: Los participantes que suscriben la inscripción garantizan poseer todos los derechos y licencias necesarios sobre el cortometraje presentado. Esto incluye, de manera no taxativa, el uso de guion, música, diseño de personajes y cualquier material visual o sonoro protegido por leyes de propiedad intelectual nacionales o internacionales. En caso de que existan coautores o terceros titulares de derechos, el solicitante asegura contar con los permisos expresos para la exhibición pública del cortometraje.
7.2 Delimitación de responsabilidad e Indemnización: Cada participante asume la responsabilidad total ante cualquier controversia derivada de la infracción de derechos de autor. Por tanto, cada participante se compromete a mantener al Festival indemne, defendiéndolo y eximiéndolo de cualquier carga económica o legal frente a reclamaciones, demandas o acciones judiciales por derechos de autor y propiedad intelectual interpuestas por terceros.
7.3 Facultad de exclusión: El Festival no será responsable por el uso indebido de propiedad intelectual por parte de los participantes. Asimismo, la organización se reserva la facultad de descalificar el cortometraje o tomar las medidas pertinentes que considere necesarias si se detectan irregularidades o posibles violaciones a los derechos de propiedad intelectual durante cualquier etapa del Festival.
8. USO DE INTELIGENCIA ARTIFICIAL
El FUA tiene como finalidad general la promoción y fomento de la producción de animación original en el contexto de la formación académica de nuevos profesionales en animación. La organización del FUA reconoce que las herramientas de inteligencia artificial generativa son tecnologías emergentes, y que su adopción y viabilidad como parte de los procesos de producción de animación se encuentra en constante evolución. Sin embargo, reconociendo que algunas de estas tecnologías emergentes pueden ser utilizadas para resolver partes del proceso de producción, en sustitución de la participación de estudiantes, la organización del FUA tomó la decisión de excluir la participación de obras que incorporen animación generada por herramientas de inteligencia artificial en la edición 2026 del Festival. Por tanto, los cortometrajes que incorporen animación generada por inteligencia artificial no serán elegibles para participar en ninguna de las categorías descritas en el Artículo 2: Categorías Oficiales de Competencia.
9. JURADO
9.1 Perfil del Jurado: La evaluación de los cortometrajes estará a cargo de un cuerpo colegiado integrado por cineastas, expertos en la industria de la animación, promotores culturales y representantes de instituciones académicas, así como figuras destacadas invitadas a la presente edición.
9.2 Conflictos de interés: Con el fin de garantizar la transparencia, queda estrictamente prohibida la participación como jurado en las categorías oficiales de competencia de cualquier individuo que posea vínculos directos o intereses en la producción de las obras que integran la selección oficial.
9.3 Carácter del veredicto: Los dictámenes emitidos por el jurado del Festival, en cualquiera de sus categorías oficiales de competencia, se consideran finales y definitivos, por lo que no se admitirá ningún recurso de revisión o apelación frente a los resultados.
10. PROYECCIÓN DE GANADORES — FUA 2026
Las obras ganadoras del primer lugar en las cuatro categorías de composición, así como las obras ganadoras de los grandes premios del jurado y del público de la primera edición del FUA, se proyectarán en la Proyección de Ganadores del FUA que formará parte de las actividades de promoción y divulgación de la siguiente edición del evento, durante los primeros meses del año 2027.
10.1 Autorización de uso: Al inscribir su obra, los participantes conceden al Festival una licencia de exhibición no exclusiva para proyectar el cortometraje en las distintas sedes y plataformas (físicas o digitales) que formen parte de la programación oficial de la presente edición.
10.2 Fines promocionales: El FUA podrá hacer uso de fragmentos de las obras seleccionadas (tráileres, fotogramas o clips de máximo 30 segundos) con el único propósito de difusión, promoción y archivo histórico en redes sociales, prensa, televisión y cualquier otro medio oficial del Festival.
10.3 Exención de pago: La participación en el Festival no implica el pago de screening fees, derechos de exhibición, ni regalías por parte de la organización a los seleccionados, ya que la exhibición se realiza bajo un esquema de promoción cultural y competencia.
La organización del FUA se reserva la facultad de interpretar las bases y decidir sobre cualquier situación de carácter técnico, administrativo o legal no prevista expresamente en este Reglamento y que surja durante el desarrollo del Festival.
La inscripción y participación en el FUA supone la plena aceptación de los artículos descritos en el presente Reglamento, así como la plena aceptación de las resoluciones que la organización del Festival tome ante situaciones no contempladas.

Official Call for Entries Rules and Regulations
University Animation Festival (FUA) 2026
1. GENERAL CONDITIONS
The University Animation Festival (FUA) officially opens its call for entries and invites creators to participate in this first edition. FUA will be held in person at the facilities of Universidad LCI Veritas, in San José, Costa Rica, from June 11 to 14, 2026.
The first edition of FUA opens its call for the submission of animated works in four official competition categories. Individuals over the age of 18 may participate, either individually or collectively, regardless of nationality, by submitting animated short films that comply with the participation guidelines and the technical screening requirements described in these Regulations.
Participation in all categories is free of charge.
2. OFFICIAL COMPETITION CATEGORIES
The four official competition categories of FUA are as follows:
Best Costa Rican Animated Fiction Short Film
Best Costa Rican Animated Non-Fiction Short Film
Best International Animated Fiction Short Film
Best International Animated Non-Fiction Short Film
In addition, all works participating in any of the official competition categories will also be eligible for two special awards:
Grand Jury Prize
Audience Grand Prize
The awards for the four official competition categories, as well as the Grand Jury Prize, will be decided by a jury appointed by the Festival.
The Audience Grand Prize will be determined by audience vote, through the voting mechanism established by the Festival organization.
3. SCHEDULE AND DEADLINES
3.1 Submission period: The call for entries will remain open from the publication of these rules until April 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (Costa Rica time). No entries or materials submitted after this deadline will be accepted.
3.2 Selection process: The Festival’s curatorial committee will evaluate the submitted works between April 16 and May 3, 2026. During this period, the organization may contact applicants to correct technical or documentation errors.
3.3 Notification of results: Participants whose works are selected will be notified by email starting May 8, 2026. The official list of selected works will be published on the Festival’s website and social media on May 12, 2026.
3.4 Festival dates: FUA 2026 will take place on June 11, 12, 13, and 14, 2026.
4. PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES
Animated short films created within an academic context may be submitted. This means they may be graduation projects or class assignments, provided they were produced as part of training at a university, animation school, or animation workshop (whether in person or online). Applicants must provide proof of the academic nature of the work, as detailed in Article 4.5.
4.1 Production date: Only works produced from January 2023 onward will be admitted into competition.
4.2 Duration and format: Works with a maximum running time of 15 minutes will be accepted, measured from the first frame to the end of the credits. No minimum duration is established for a piece to be considered eligible.
4.3 Accepted techniques: The Festival adopts an inclusive approach regarding technical execution. Short films created in 2D, 3D, stop motion, mixed media, rotoscopy, experimental animation, and any other animated process are accepted.
4.4 Delivery specifications: Participants must provide a video file in .MP4 or .MOV container format (H.264 codec or Apple ProRes 422), in a minimum Full HD resolution (1920x1080), together with an official poster and three high-resolution stills from the work (300 dpi).
4.5 Proof of academic context: Since this is a category aimed at students or training processes, applicants must attach one (1) of the following documents to validate the origin of the work:
Copy of a valid student ID card or proof of enrollment of any of the individuals responsible for the direction or production.
Letter of support or institutional email issued by a teacher, tutor, or academic authority certifying the pedagogical nature of the project.
Digital evidence (screenshot) from educational platforms, virtual classrooms, or course programs clearly showing the participant’s name and the related workshop or course.
4.6 Correction of errors: If the submitted documentation is ambiguous or insufficient, the Festival organization reserves the right to contact the applicant to request additional clarification before proceeding with the short film’s registration for participation in FUA.
5. REGISTRATION, SUBMISSION, AND SELECTION OF WORKS
5.1 Submission channels: Individuals interested in participating must register their short films within the deadlines established in the official schedule described in Article 3. For short film registration, FUA provides a form available at the following address: [FORM LINK]
5.2 Material submission protocol for preselection: When using the online form, the sender must provide direct access to the work through WeTransfer, OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or private servers. It is the sole responsibility of participants to ensure that links remain active throughout the submission period. In the case of files with expiration dates, the applicant must renew the link proactively; otherwise, the work will be excluded from competition.
5.3 Curatorship and selection: All submitted short films will be evaluated by a specialized curatorial committee appointed by the Festival organization. The decision of this committee is final and not subject to appeal.
5.4 Historical archive: All material submitted for the selection process, regardless of the evaluation and decision of the curatorial committee, will be formally incorporated into the Festival’s documentary and consultation archive.
5.5 Acceptance of the rules and grant of rights: The submission of a short film through the registration form implies full acceptance of these regulations. Therefore, by submitting the form, the participant confirms that they are the holder of the economic rights to the piece and grants the following rights to the Festival:
Temporary exhibition: Authorization for the public communication, reproduction, and free exhibition of the work, in accordance with the guidelines set forth in Article 10 of these regulations, until the completion of the promotional activities for the following edition in 2027.
Archive and memory: Permission for the storage and use of the work as part of the Festival’s historical archive.
Additional formalization: Selected participants undertake to sign any authorization document the organization may require to formalize their participation in the Festival.
6. ENTRY FEE
FUA does not charge entry fees in any of its competitive categories. Likewise, the Festival does not recognize or apply screening fees and does not make payments for works that are selected. Any external expenses incurred by participants in relation to the screening of their work must be borne entirely by the participants.
7. COPYRIGHT AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
7.1 Ownership and authorizations: Participants submitting an entry guarantee that they hold all rights and licenses necessary for the short film submitted. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of script, music, character design, and any visual or sound material protected by national or international intellectual property laws. In the event that there are co-authors or third-party rights holders, the applicant guarantees that they have obtained express permission for the public screening of the short film.
7.2 Limitation of liability and indemnification: Each participant assumes full responsibility for any dispute arising from copyright infringement. Accordingly, each participant agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold the Festival harmless from any financial or legal burden arising from claims, lawsuits, or legal actions related to copyright and intellectual property brought by third parties.
7.3 Right of exclusion: The Festival shall not be responsible for the misuse of intellectual property by participants. Likewise, the organization reserves the right to disqualify a short film or take any measures it deems necessary if irregularities or possible violations of intellectual property rights are detected at any stage of the Festival.
8. USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
FUA’s general purpose is to promote and encourage the production of original animation within the academic training context of new animation professionals. The FUA organization recognizes that generative artificial intelligence tools are emerging technologies, and that their adoption and viability as part of animation production processes are constantly evolving. However, acknowledging that some of these emerging technologies may be used to solve parts of the production process in place of student participation, the FUA organization has decided to exclude works incorporating animation generated by artificial intelligence tools from the 2026 edition of the Festival. Therefore, short films that incorporate animation generated by artificial intelligence will not be eligible to participate in any of the categories described in Article 2: Official Competition Categories.
9. JURY
9.1 Jury profile: The evaluation of the short films will be carried out by a collegiate body composed of filmmakers, experts in the animation industry, cultural promoters, representatives of academic institutions, and distinguished figures invited to this edition.
9.2 Conflicts of interest: In order to guarantee transparency, it is strictly forbidden for any individual who has direct ties to or interests in the production of works included in the official selection to serve as a juror in the official competition categories.
9.3 Nature of the verdict: The decisions issued by the Festival jury in any of its official competition categories shall be considered final and definitive, and no review or appeal may be filed against the results.
10. SCREENING OF WINNERS — FUA 2026
The first-place winning works in the four competition categories, as well as the winners of the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Grand Prize of the first edition of FUA, will be screened at the FUA Winners Screening, which will form part of the promotional and outreach activities of the next edition of the event during the first months of 2027.
10.1 Authorization of use: By submitting their work, participants grant the Festival a non-exclusive screening license to exhibit the short film at the different venues and platforms (physical or digital) that are part of the official program of the current edition.
10.2 Promotional purposes: FUA may use excerpts from selected works (trailers, stills, or clips of up to 30 seconds) solely for the purposes of promotion, publicity, and historical archiving on social media, press, television, and any other official Festival media.
10.3 No payment: Participation in the Festival does not imply the payment of screening fees, exhibition rights, or royalties by the organization to the selected participants, since the screening takes place under a cultural promotion and competition framework.
The FUA organization reserves the right to interpret these rules and decide on any technical, administrative, or legal matter not expressly provided for in these Regulations and arising during the course of the Festival.
Registration and participation in FUA imply full acceptance of the articles described in these Regulations, as well as full acceptance of any decisions made by the Festival organization regarding situations not covered herein.
