Il Fantàsia Festival, quest’anno alla sua seconda edizione, è un evento culturale di respiro internazionale ispirato all’opera di Michael Ende, che si terrà i giorni 25-26-27 agosto 2023 a Genzano Di Roma, dove Ende ha vissuto oltre 15 anni, e dove sono stati scritti i suoi libri più famosi, Momo e La storia Infinita.

Quest’anno alla ricca programmazione si aggiunge una nuova sezione, il FANTÀSIA SHORTS, che si rivolge ai registi affermati o provenienti dalle scuole di cinema di tutto il mondo che hanno trovato ispirazione nel genere letterario del Fantastico, anche detto Fantasy. Il festival è rivolto agli appassionati del genere e ha l’ambizione di stimolare i giovani artisti a mettersi in gioco con questo affascinante genere cinematografico.

Il Fantàsia Shorts si svolgerà quest’anno in una location prestigiosa dell'antica città di Genzano, il parco romantico Sforza Cesarini, risalente al ‘700. Il luogo ideale per unire la valorizzazione del patrimonio artistico e storico del territorio, con il mondo del fantastico. Il Festival concepito come centro unificatore, ha, fin dalla sua prima edizione nell’agosto del 2022, unito il mondo della letteratura, del cinema (proiettando in anteprima nazionale “Le Avventure di Jim Bottone”), della musica, dell’arte di strada, della scrittura per bambini, dando la possibilità agli ospiti di immergersi in tre giorni fantastici, nei quali riflettere e vivere emozioni legate all’immaginario e alla sensibilità umana. Nella prossima edizione, prevista per i giorni 25-26-27 agosto 2023, si celebra anche il cinquantenario dalla pubblicazione di Momo.

I partner istituzionali del Festival, ideato e realizzato dal Comune di Genzano di Roma, saranno il Comune Tedesco di Garmisch-Partenkirchen, città natale di Michael Ende, la Città di Roma Capitale e la Regione Lazio.

The Fantàsia Festival is an international cultural event inspired by the work of Michael Ende. The II edition of the event will take place from August 25 to 26 and 27 in Genzano Di Roma, the hometown of Micheal Ende for more than fifteen years, and the location of his most well-known works, Momo and The Unknown Journey.

This year a new section, FANTÀSIA SHORTS, has been added to the rich programme of the three-day event. It is aimed at established filmmakers or film school students from all over the world who have found inspiration in the literary genre of Fantasy. The festival aims to encourage young artists to get involved in this fascinating film genre.
This year, Fantàsia Shorts will take place at the 18th century romantic Sforza Cesarini park, in the ancient city of Genzano. The perfect place to combine the valorisation of the territory's artistic and historical heritage with the world of fantasy.

Since its first edition in August 2022, the Festival has brought together various artistic worlds such as literature, cinema (including the exclusive preview of 'The Adventures of Jim Bottone'), music, street art, and children's writing offering a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in three extraordinary days filled with reflection and emotional experiences connected to the human imagination and sensitivity.

The II edition, scheduled for August 25-26-27 2023, will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of the publication of Momo.

The Festival, conceptualized and organized by the Municipality of Genzano di Roma, will have institutional partnerships with the German Municipality of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the birthplace of Michael Ende, the City of Rome Capital, and the Lazio Region.

GIURIA
La giuria internazionale sarà presieduta dal critico cinematografico Maurizio Di Rienzo e formata da esperti del genere letterario e di cinema: Charlotte Roth, Paola Randi, Maricla Affatato, Enzo D'Alò, Alberto Crespi e Wulf Dorn.

Le decisioni del comitato di selezione e della giuria sono inappellabili. Il comitato di selezione decide il numero di cortometraggi selezionati per la proiezione ufficiale. Se un film è selezionato, l’organizzazione del Festival contatterà ufficialmente i partecipanti tramite mail. I titoli dei film selezionati verranno pubblicati on-line sulla pagina facebook dedicata.

The prizes and special mentions will be presented during the final evening by an esteemed international jury.

JURY

The international jury will be led by film critic Maurizio Di Rienzo and will consist of literary and film experts: Charlotte Roth, Paola Randi, Maricla Affatato, Enzo D'Alò, Alberto Crespi e Wulf Dorn.

The decisions made by the selection committee and the jury are final. The selection committee will determine the number of short films to be included in the official screening. If a film is selected, the Festival organizers will notify the participants via email. The titles of the chosen films will also be published on the dedicated Facebook page.

Rules & Terms

1) La sezione Fantàsia Shorts è destinata esclusivamente a cortometraggi di finzione e animazione della durata massima di 20 minuti.
2) I film devono essere correlati al genere Fantastico. Sono considerati selezionabili film che rientrano a titolo di esempio nei generi Fiabesco, Epico, Modern Fantasy, Realismo Magico, Urban Fantasy, Steampunk, Fantascienza.
3) Ogni autore è responsabile dei contenuti della propria opera.
4) Se il film ha dialoghi in lingua diversa dall’inglese, deve essere obbligatoriamente sottotitolato in inglese.
5) Gli autori dei film selezionati dovranno fornire un file non compresso HD (.MOV, .MP4, ProRes 422) con i sottotitoli in inglese e italiano in modalità burned in. Se i dialoghi sono in lingua italiana, saranno sufficienti sottotitoli in inglese, e viceversa.
6) I film pervenuti senza le specifiche richieste o oltre la scadenza potrebbero non essere inseriti nella selezione.
7) Il festival non si farà carico della spedizione di trofei e premi nel caso in cui i vincitori non possano partecipare il giorno della proclamazione.
8) La partecipazione al festival presuppone la rinuncia a qualsiasi diritto di proiezione da parte degli autori/distributori dei film selezionati. Potrà a tal fine essere richiesta specifica dichiarazione firmata dall’autore/distributore.

- ENGLISH VERSION -

1) The Fantàsia Shorts section is exclusively for short fiction and animation films with a maximum duration of 20 minutes.
2) Films must be related to the Fantasy genre. Films that fall, for example, within the genres of Fairy Tale, Epic, Modern Fantasy, Magical Realism, Urban Fantasy, Steampunk, and Science Fiction are eligible for selection.
3) Each author is responsible for the content of their own work.
4) If the film contains dialogue in a language other than English, it must be subtitled in English.
5) The authors of selected films must provide an uncompressed HD file (.MOV, .MP4, ProRes 422) with burnt-in English and Italian subtitles. If the dialogue is in Italian, English subtitles will suffice, and vice versa.
6) Films submitted without the specified requirements or after the deadline may not be included in the selection.
7) The festival will not cover the shipping costs of trophies and prizes if the winners are unable to attend the proclamation day.
8) Participation in the festival implies relinquishing any screening rights by the authors/distributors of the selected films. A specific signed declaration may be requested from the author/distributor for this purpose.
