The Fakenham Film Festival 2025 is a film festival built around celebrating and promoting Norfolk films and film makers.

The Festival (due to run in September 2025), will include a range of film screenings from local film makers; short films made by schools and colleges in the local area; as well as a short film competition for new and experienced film makers to get involved with.

The Fakenham Film Festival will take place at the Fakenham Cinema, with all films being screened in the main screening room.

Filmmakers:
Filmmakers must be based Norfolk or the films need to have been filmed in Norfolk

Genres:
Narrative/fiction/dramas, non-fiction/documentaries, art films and experimental pieces are all accepted.

Themes:
Films should have a link to Norfolk and must fit one of our theme is 'Made in Norfolk' in terms of how the film was made or the subject matter of the film.

Entries:
Only one entry per individual in each category - this does not apply to organisations, clubs, schools and colleges.

Rights and permissions:
All rights, permissions, and clearances (including music) must be obtained before submission, and applicants must ensure they have the right to submit the work. By entering your work, you agree to this and the responsibilities involved. Fakenham Film Festival assumes no responsibility for violation of copyright law.
Concerning the use of images of people in the film - all actors shown in the film must have given permission to the filmmakers - Fakenham Film Festival assumes no responsibility

Youth Competition Specific Rules:
Films submitted into the youth category will conform to the standards rules, however, themes and language use of a more mature nature shouldn’t be included and filmmakers should be mindful of their audience.

Music:
Only Creative Commons, and licence free music is allowed to be used. If licenced music is used, film makers supply the licence for the film. If a film does use licensed music without permission, the film may be rejected from the competition.

Language:
All languages accepted though if the film is in a language other than English (and is essential for the plot), subtitles must be used.

Runtime (Short films):
Short f ilms must be between 1 - 10 minutes
Films that run longer than this cannot sadly be included in the competition

30 Second Shorts:
Submission to the ‘30-Second-Shorts’ must be 30-seconds exactly (including credits)

Promotion:
By submitting your film, you are giving permission for Fakenham Film Festival to screen your film, and use trailers and other material without any charge or fee during the festival and subsequent screenings organised by Fakenham Film Festival, but, of course, we will confirm permission for each and every screening after the main festival. If you are successful, your film will be automatically included in the programme and be listed on our social media channels when the programme is announced.

Judges Decisions:
All submissions that follow the guidelines will be considered for the festival. Films are judged as part of a panel discussion where the use of the themes, technical skill, storytelling and entertainment value will be considered. All decisions are final.

Public Vote:
All films entered will be submitted to the public vote (unless explicitly stated by the filmmaker). Voting will take place before the festival.

Technical Specifications:
Films will ideally be filmed in either HD, 2k or 4k format. If films have been filmed in an older resolution (archive footage for example), screen size should be taken account for.
File type:
MP4, MOV, h.264 and h.265, film files will be accepted. DVD, Blue Ray or URL links to screening platforms will not be accepted.
Animation files:
Animation files will not be accepted and must be converted to one of the above file types. Any questions, please let us know.
