●FUSE - Film Under Severe Experiment is an international short film festival focusing on the work of young filmmakers, particularly students. Its main aim is to give the authors the freedom to push the envelope in filmmaking. Filmmakers are not confined by type; instead, they are encouraged to experiment and reflect on creative process. Since so-called hybrid films have been intriguing audience for some time, this festival aims to showcase successful examples of the cinematic experiment.

The organizer of FUSE - Film Under Severe Experiment is Cinema Club Karlovac (Kinoklub Karlovac), a non-governmental organization whose primary focus are audiovisual activities. It promotes film and video culture and related arts. Cinema Club Karlovac is a co-organizer of the Youth Film Festival and Four River Film Festival, a national and international event dedicated to the youth filmmaking. It is also a member of Youth Cinema Network, broad network of film workers, festivals, associations, etc. Cinema Club Karlovac organizes Karlovac River Cinema, a unique open air cinema on the coast of several rivers throughout Karlovac County in the summertime.

The Festival is patroned by Croatian Audiovisual Centre, Karlovac, The Croatian Film Directors Guild and City of Karlovac.

Rules & Terms

Films can be made by individual filmmakers, schools, colleges or youth groups.
The 8th edition of FUSE is waiting for you.

Submission Guidelines
1. Films entered must be no longer than 20 minutes.

2. To be eligible for entry, filmmakers must be between the ages of 18 and 35 at the time of film completion.

3. Films received after the closing date will not be eligible for selection.

4. There is no limit to the numbers of films you can submit but each entry must have its own entry form.

5. The jury's decisions are final.

6. International entries are welcome, but all non-English language films must have English subtitles!

7. Films must have been completed after January 1st, 2022.

FUSE – Film Under Severe Experiment reserves the right to use stills or clips of up to 30 seconds from submitted films for publicity purposes.

Ownership and copyright: By submitting the film, you acknowledge that you are sole author and owner of the film, or if you are not the sole author, you have secured all necessary and appropriate rights, written permissions and releases in connection with submitting the film. In particular, all music and other rights must be cleared for nonexclusive educational, online, broadcast and theatrical distribution.

    This festival is one of the best festivals i’ve ever participated in. They are so professional and supportive. We all had our best times and times with the whole crew / participants and even juries. All the films that were in the festivals were qualified. The theatre / accommodation and their hospitality were all great.
    I’m also so honored to win the Audience Award in this festival.
    A big THANK YOU to Lucija Ćeškić, the head of the festivals. She is the most professional and the most hardworking and supportive person i got to meet.
