FLM FWD festival Barrington RI, is a Small Town Film Festival in a context conceived to encourage community building, showcasing family-appropriate content to promote the understanding of diversity is seeking BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and otherized filmmakers. The festival calls for submissions of short films and featurettes up to 35 mins long that explore the stories and issues that express the breadth and depth of the American experience of otherized populations. The festival is a community-wide celebration, which includes music, food, child/family activities, all surrounding the screening of a select slate of narrative and/or documentary films spotlighting diversity.

This unique film festival seeks not only to award jury prizes but ultimately will create a funding entity to support otherized filmmakers and their projects. Although specific awards (and award amounts) are not yet determined, filmmakers selected for the inaugural festival are sure to recognized and supported for their participation.

FLM FWD festival Barrington film submissions must address/express stories of the life experiences of otherized individuals, families, communities, historical perspectives, fact or fiction-based, that are accessible to all audiences. The FLM FWD Festival Barrington seeks to include short films of all genres, narrative, documentary, animation or other. To be considered, all submissions must be under 35 minutes, and must include: a synopsis in English. All submissions must answer the question regarding content. 'In five words or less, please identify the 'otherized' population that is the subject of your film. (For example: Black Trans youth, LGBTQ+, Indigenous people of California, neurologically impaired veterans, etc.'). To be considered, films must be in English or with English subtitles. All finalists will be required to allow our festival to download their film for viewing on our 40' outdoor screen or state of the art indoor screens in our auditoriums. Our outdoor locations does not have stable enough wifi to guarantee the quality of the screening without this accommodation. Please be sure your film is uploaded and able to be downloaded if we ask for your permission to do so. Special note: if your film was submitted this summer in our original call for submissions between July and august, it will be considered without submitting a second time.
