Ethnofest starts a new chapter with the establishment of the Initiations section as an autonomous International Student Documentary Festival called ETHNOFEST INITIATIONS – International Student Documentary Festival, taking the form of a three-day screening event in December. Committed to boost and promote student films and emerging voices in ethnographic cinema, Ethnofest supports both international and national student documentary productions, showcasing humane and insightful socially-minded documentary films from around the globe.

The festival, which was established in 2010 and has grown to be one of the most important and original film festivals in Europe, constitutes a prominent international meeting place for documentary and ethnographic filmmakers.

Maintaining its vision of fostering dialogue and promoting both the films and their creators, the festival continues its screenings with a focus on student documentaries and the ways young filmmakers from around the world approach field research through collective and creative methods. At the same time, it seeks to open up the classroom to the wider public by introducing these works to the audience and the cultural scene of Athens.

Attending Ethnofest was a great experience. It was such a pleasure being part of the Greek short documentary programme with my film "The Place between Was & Will Be". Everyone involved were very welcoming and I got to watch some beautiful ethnographic films
