We return with another Halloween takeover, bringing captivating independent horror to our devoted audience of wretched undead cinephiles.

All bets are off and we want to see what scary short films you've concocted in your diabolic brains so together we can remind people that Halloween isn't make-believe.

We welcome entries from a variety of genres, including horror, gothic, dark-fantasy, magic realist, occult, and post-apocalyptic.

And as always- the Haunted Saloon also accepts Western films (especially the darker ones) and Halloween films in general.

All entries must be have a run-time of less than 20 minutes, and should have been completed in the last 4 years.

The third annual Saloon Showdown will see films competing for awards in the following categories:

Best Short Film
Best Acting
Best Monster

With cash and in-kind prizes from our dastardly crew of sponsors.

EVS accepts short films of up to 20 minutes.

Horror is our favorite, however Gothic Western (and even just plain Western, we are the Haunted Saloon after all) along with anything inspired by Halloween is welcome at our festival. . Films will be judged by a jury of filmmakers based on quality of production, depth of narrative, and overall affect.

East Van Showcase: Halloween Havoc put together an excellent event this year! The films were all wonderful, the event was well attended, and everyone was in their full Halloween spirit. All around, a great film fest to participate in!

  • Great festival! Dynamic, on point and varied! It was a pleasure attending and watching the selected films. The festival made a lot of efforts to bring the filmmakers closer to the audience. Also, the awards looked awesome and their posters are worth keeping. Look forward to the next edition!

  • East Van Showcase is a terrific event and community of people. Sean, James, and the rest of Hammer & Tong worked super hard to put on the event, and it really paid off. Great people, great films, great time!
