Rules and Competitions

International Vertical Competition
The focus of the festival is the screen presentation of vertical cinematic works (format 9:16) in international competition.
In this competition we include productions that require the vertical cinema presentation due to their narrative style, their aesthetics, their structure, we don't include video mapping or facade projection.
We are looking for cinematic works that reflect and define the limits and possibilities of the vertical format through a creative examination of different modes of production and expression.
The competitions are tendered nationally and internationally. We research, collect and curate specifically current works, the working process up to the follow-up of the festival is a creative-curatorial process of rapprochement and the clarification of terms - a contemporary debate, legitimized by creative and substantive profound curators and jurors.

National Vertical Competition (Bad Gastein)
In the national competition vertical cinematic works (format 9:16) from Austria are searched in an international comparison. This should pay particular attention to Austrian productions.
The filmmakers are invited to deal with the format, talents are sought and promoted.

Jury
The preselection takes place in the sense of a competition program corresponding to the festival profile.
The independent expert jury consists in film and TV makers, producers, artists.

Limitations
All submissions must be shooted and/or edited and presented in portrait format (vertical film 9:16).
There are no limits for length and year of origin.

The deadline for entries in all categories is August 1st, 2018.

A completed entry includes the filled in application form, a preview copy of the film (preferably via link or upload), filmstills, a transcript of the dialogues, a synopsis and the director's bio- and filmography (preferably via e-mail to dieerstevertikale@gmail.com).

Responsibility

I am responsible for the acquisition of the rights and explicitly exempt the organizer from possible legal recourse regarding unauthorized usage.

I permit backup to use various clips for PR-purposes.

I permit backup to use my work for the production of showreels for PR-purposes of the backup_festival.

I permit the broadcast of clips of my work on television.

I permit the publication of clips of my work on the Internet.

I understand that the film will also be shown in the additional program.

I permit the storage of application material in the backup-archive.

All deliveries from non-European Union countries must be marked »No commercial value - for cultural purposes only«. With copies from non-European Union countries, please include a »pro forma invoice« with a print value of less than US $ 20.

The insurance for the delivery and return of all materials is the responsibility of the sender.

Unfortunately we are unable to accept deliveries which do not have the full postage required.

If the original version of the film is in another language than English, than the screening copy should be subtitled in English. Alternatively please include a dialog list.

Regularien und Wettbewerbe

Internationaler Wettbewerb
Im Mittelpunkt des Festivals steht die Leinwandpräsentation vertikaler filmischer Arbeiten (im Format 9:16) im internationalen Wettbewerb.
In diesen Wettbewerb gehören Produktionen, die aufgrund ihrer Erzählweise, ihrer Ästhetik, ihrer Struktur der vertikalen Kinopräsentation bedürfen, kein Videomapping, keine Fassadenprojektion.
Gesucht werden filmische Arbeiten, die durch eine kreative Auseinandersetzung mit verschiedenen Produktions- und Ausdrucksweisen die Grenzen und Möglichkeiten des vertikalen Formats reflektieren und definieren.
Die Wettbewerbe werden national und international ausgeschrieben. Wir recherchieren, sammeln und kuratieren gezielt aktuelle Arbeiten, der Arbeitsprozess bis zur Nachbereitung des Festivals ist ein gestalterisch-kuratorischer Prozess der Annäherung und der Begriffsklärung – eine zeitgemäße Auseinandersetzung, legitimiert durch gestalterisch und inhaltlich profunde Kuratoren und Juroren.

Nationaler Wettbewerb (Bad Gastein)
Im nationalen Wettbewerb werden vertikale filmische Arbeiten (im Format 9:16) aus Österreich im internationalen Vergleich gesucht. Damit soll ein besonderes Augenmerk auf Österreichische Produktionen gelegt werden.
Die Filmemacher werden aufgefordert, sich mit dem Format auseinanderzusetzen, Talente werden gesucht und gefördert.

Jury
Die Vorauswahl erfolgt im Sinne eines dem Festivalprofil entsprechenden Wettbewerbsprogramms.
Die unabhängige Fachjury besteht aus Film- und Fernsehmachern, Produzenten, Künstlern.

Limitierungen
Alle Einreichungen müssen im Hochformat (vertikal 9:16) gedreht und oder/geschnitten sein und vertikal präsentiert werden.
Es gibt keine Limits für Längen und Entstehungsjahre.

Die Einsendefrist ist jeweils der 1. August 2018.

Zur Einreichung gehören das vollständig ausgefüllte Einreichformular, eine Sichtungskopie (vorzugsweise per Link oder Upload), Filmstills, die Synopsis, eine Dialogliste sowie eine Bio- und Filmographie des Regisseurs (vorzugsweise per E-Mail an dieerstevertikale@gmail.com).

Verantwortlichkeit

Ich hafte für die Einholung der Rechte und stelle die Veranstalter ausdrücklich von mögli­chen Regressansprüchen Dritter wegen nicht genehmigter Rechte frei.

Ich gestatte backup die Verwendung von Klammerteilen meiner Arbeit zu PR-Zwecken.

Ich gestatte backup die Verwendung meiner Arbeit zur Produktion von Showreels für PR-Zwecke des backup_festival.

Ich gestatte die Ausstrahlung von Klammerteilen meiner Arbeit im Fernsehen.

Ich gestatte die Veröffentlichung von Klammerteilen meiner Arbeit im Internet.

Ich bin einverstanden, dass der Film auch im Rahmenprogramm gezeigt wird.

Ich gestatte den Verbleib des Sichtungsmaterials im Festival-Archiv.

Alle Sendungen aus Nicht-EU-Ländern müssen den Aufdruck »No commercial value - for cultural purposes only« tragen. Es muss ein »pro forma invoice« mit Wertangabe unter 20 US $ beigelegt werden.

Die Versicherung für den Hin- und Rücktransport muss vom Einsender getragen werden.

Die Annahme von Sendungen, die uns Kosten verursachen, müssen wir verweigern.

Ist die Originalsprache der Arbeit eine andere als englisch, sollte die Vorführkopie Eng­lisch untertitelt sein. Andernfalls soll eine Dialogliste beigefügt werden.
